It really depends on the person and the reason for he break up. I have a couple that I do not like and hold a hatered for, but my two best friends are also ex girlfriends. One I even walked her down the aisle at her wedding and was her "maid of honour".
For me, it mostly falls on how they treated me at the time of the break up. Unfortunately both women and men can be extremely cruel to try and sever a relationship, often to burn the bridge so they cannot be tempted to go back.
