I was chatting to certain member of Cs earlier this week over a coffee and we got onto talking about newspapers. What I am about to say may offend some people but we all have the freedom of speech.

I hate most Tabloid Newspapers namely, The Sun, The Star, The Daily Mirror, The Evening Herald, The News of the world, the Sunday People, and The Sunday Mirror. I think these newspapers are SCUM Newspapers and I wonder why do people buy them. The journalism in them is down market and degrading. Would you ever see Woodward and Bernstein resort to this type of journalism?.

The front page stories mainly deal with scandal, so called celebrities and sex.

I don't mind the Daily Express, and the Daily Mail as they seem to stay clear of tacky journalism.

Do you agree with me or do you think there is a place for trashy tabloids in the media?.

I agree with you, however as long as trash sells people will produce it. The buck is the bottom line for many businesses unfortunately

Ah the mail is mainly harmless except for its scaremongering on health issues and immigration.

I was really shocked the first time I picked up a daily paper in Britain, I thought that American papers were bad because I thought the stories were often one sided etc. but at least it was the news!

What Brits consider to be a daily paper is what Americans pick up at the Grocery store on a once a week basis, the gossip tabloid. I was really shocked that people subscribe to this nonsense on a daily basis!wow!

As long as there is a market for it, there will be a place for it.

Even the more "professional" media sources print what sells. Remember their main goal is not journalism, it is advertising. They their money from advertisements. They get big ad contracts by selling lots of copies, and they will print what gets attention over what is relevant every time.

They also love to dig up the dirt on politicians or Celebs or TV presenters.
They have no qualms printing this dirt even if it means hurting the family of the person they are writing about.

I don't read them either and just shake my head when I see the lead stories on the front while I'm in the checkout line.
