As I said yesterday our cat of 18 years died. I tried to comford my daughter by telling her he is now playing in heaven with all the other animals. She said what if they do not go to heaven but just be dead.

I know in the bible it does not say what happens to animals when they dye, but what is your belief?

The important thing is to comfort your daughter, that was the right thing to say.

I forgot to add she is 24, not a child, but this is affecting her hard, especially when she got up in the morning and he was not there.

I believe since they have to have a spirit in order to die to start with that they automatically go to heaven, it is not like us who have to make a choice.

The story of the "Rainbow Bridge"

When an animal dies, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. The following is the story of the Rainbow Bridge:-

RAINBOW BRIDGE

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge. When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body begins quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again.

The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.

Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Hmmm.. I don't believe in god and all that malarky.. but surely.. if you do .. any living creature would have a soul?

Other wise that's a little 'selective' wouldn't it.

not necessarily, animals were put on this earth for our benefit, to eat, to love etc...That tree in my mom's front yard that fell down this fall certainly won't be in Heaven when I get there, and that tree (Horsechesnut) was loved and appreciated by many.

noo I said any living CREATURE... not a frickin tree.. or a plant etc.. haha

I just don't see how a human (apparently) has a soul and animal would not.

I think that's just selective thinking.

A tree does not have blood and bones, or can move around.
