There's been ANOTHER one at Northern Illinois University. If I were a college age student these days, I would be afraid to go to school, & if I did I would be wearing a protective vest like the police or military wear.

Lately I am more frightened of schools than terrorists. If I had school age kids, you can be sure they would be home schooled.

Most of the shooters have had troubled lives. And this falls to the parents not paying attention to their children.Any kind of mood changes, any kind of big changes in appearance or even in attitudes. It must be reconized when it appears so the parents can deal with it.Then we have what I lik to call the safety net,and some schools are great at it.They will have some counselors who stand out from the rest and what is missed at home, isn't missed by them. There is always red flags before these children pick up those guns. Its up to us to see them, not ignore them hope they will go away. And u should put away the fear and mourn if your child is headed in this destructive path, one you could have prevented.D'oh!

teenagers have been shooting one another for a long time...

the security in our childrens schools even university..

I can not remember there ever being a politician who did not give the rhetoric of our children's safety and education should come first.

after years and years of all theses soapbox speeches our lawmakers still fall short of assuring us of our childs safety in school.

What price or what cost would it be too much to assure personal safety in school for our children.

Its more than a "money" issue

It was addressed in one state of the union for in his terms in office he has went to the schools for memorials,Virginia tech was one.And they did take more measures.Putting security in schools made our schools look like a battleground not a place to learn, and live together. And then we wonder why children are acting out more ,maybe because of the fear that something at anytime could happen to them.I think the teachers should be ready as well should a situation arise.Say an alert buzzer to get help in before it escalates.hug peace

Three is nothing that can keep anyone from snapping . Sure there is counseling, but the counseling can't be there when the voice of reason leaves a dimented persons mind. If we live in fear of these crazies ...they win in the end. When you start wearing vests and such... the crazies just up the anty...They use bombs. Nothing surprises me anymore. Nothing. Especially in this awful, GREEDY, butthole of a country. They just need to flush this toilet bowl...starting at the top.

It seems to me that if two of the worlds most violent nations i.e. UK and America are having problems with youth gun crimes then they need to look at more than the parents for the solutions dunno

Here, I hate that my kid has to go to the school that she does right now. Already had one teacher fired by the 3rd month she was there LOL Yeah, lovely place. As far as the violence goes, this school has a rule that you can't even defend yourself while under attack. If you throw one punch to defend you get kicked out along with the kid who started the swinging. She said she saw a boy just get down on his knees and let another pummel him bloody, just because he wasn't going to get kicked out too. And no one stepped in, because the fight was across the street from the school, not even on school property. But still the rule holds there about suspensions as well. That is a load of crap. First the kids are told not to defend themselves, and the staff makes it clear they won't do anything to protect them either. Told mine, screw that, anyone comes after you like that, defend yourself with whatever you have. Being one of the smallest kids in that school, not like she will ever be in a position of being attacked by anyone smaller. And if it goes down, not only will I back her all the way, I will be filing charges against this school, like I have others, for child endangerment. Who knows, might get another principal in this city fired.
