Is a stupid question to start with. God would not be God if he sentenced people to hell for serving him.

Some that say they serve God will end up in hell. You can serve without loving, but you can't love without serving. Read that on a sign the other day. Didn't really think about what it meant till reading this thread.

It is not enough to serve and do good, with the expectation that our good works will get us to heaven. You must have invited God into your life and heart in order to get to be with him in eternity.
Sorry Ambrose, really can't help but agree with this.
Even my agnostic gut tells me this cannot be right....
But then my agnostic gut can't accept the idea of hell to begin with......

Alabama, I love that ''You can serve without loving but you can't love without serving'' thumbs upthumbs up

Alabama, I love that ''You can serve without loving but you can't love without serving''

See if this helps you, God is love, hell is just eternity without God, heaven is eternity with him (/her/it).

I can see that and agree....
And I kind of have a faith where I strongly believe in goodness and love....
Only thing is I have no way of getting my head around most of this god stuff and find I disagree in my heart very often with the ideas described in many religious doctrines/scriptures....

But overall, I think I have my share of peace with the little I've worrked out for myself....
I don't know if you know what I mean...
I feel like sending you a hug Is that okay?

One of the reasons ,imo, that this place often feels like hell is that people react from their own anger instead of trying to understand other people/situations.

May I remind you that you know NOTHING on any level about me.
And though you say you don't meant to disrespect me, you sound like you have no problem resenting and offending me.
Go back and read my posts and you may get a better idea of who you have so willingly attacked.

I have VOLUNTEERED 3 yrs for UNICEF, 4 yrs for the Pan African Day Care Centre that used to be here.
I have never stopped working as a teacher since I began 22 yrs ago (not exactly a sit down job).
I lost my mother to cancer when I was in my 20's, have only ever been with a guy for 3 yrs (and that was over a decade ago), never had the joy of marriage or children. Lived alone the past 18 yrs.
Mentally ill sister who hates me, can't ever go to see my 80 yr old dad because he lives with her,
today's a holiday so I'm here on CS answering you......

Shall I go on..... does that give you a better idea of what a quiet life can be?

2 things I'd like to clear up:
1.I never said this was hell on earth. I said it may NOT be....
2.At some point you ask why I get a quiet life while others get ''hell''. My response is twofold -
a. what makes you think a quiet life is void of pain?
b. I really don't know.

Don't resent people their quiet lives.
There's more than enough pain going round.
And if some people do have quiet, uneventful lives it is usually because they have learned to contain their pain and anger and have accepted whatever small portion life has given out to them as their lot.
Finito.

My apology to you for sounding so judgmental, but you were not clear on the situation of your life, All you said was a quiet uneventfull life. Sounds to me you have had quite a few events in your life.
You may not have said hell is not on earth but you did respond to my comments about hell being on earth. So I guess I asummed you did beleive that. But you know what they say to asumme is to make an ass out of you and me.
I truley could not make head nor tails of what you were saying, but in my own defence everything you put in words sounded more like you were nut suffering yet claiming to be in hell.
You have my respect for all that you have done to help others that suffer and the fact that you can get past your own personal suffering. That takes a truely good person.
My veiws don't change on this subject but they do change in how I see you and others like you.
Religion and the belief in God is never going to change and there will always be a debate over the issues that come from the topic. The truth is no one knows if there is a Heaven or hell, no one knows that there is a God some beleive some do not.
I personally Question if there is a God and if there is why do people believe he is All forgiving and that there is no hell or we are there now.
Why would be in Hell now? what did we do to deserve it? How do we rectify something we did wrong if we have no memmory of what we did?
Again please accept my apology for condemming your way of life and the same goes for anyone else that may feel I was attacking them on a personal level. That is not what I intended to do.
Everyone has the right to there beleifs, To bring it up in a forum opens it up for descution And that is a good place to look for the anwers or to become completely confused.

Christians and other religious-believers say that their main purpose is to serve God, and that they do things principally to please Him (or Her). That is, they are not acting with the idea of obtaining any reward.

Let's put that to the test: What if regardless of your actions to please God (or gods), you knew you would spend the rest of eternity in Hell (or a hellish place). Would you still then have any desire to please God?

In another thread I asked whether we would prefer to love knowing we would never be loved, or to be loved knowing we would never love in return?

The idea in both cases is whether we act fundamentally selfishly, or for the benefit of others.

Jeff

Jeff? did God die and leave you boss?comfort what do you mean let's put it through the test? it would only be hypothetically speaking on a very realistic outcome I am thinking, soooo I think I will wait until I die and let him know and show him while I am alive that I will do the best of good to the best of my ability, did that sound like the fifth?rolling on the floor laughing lips
