Well I haven't taken the gig yet. Actually I was offered to play in a Tom Petty Tribute Band as well. Tribute Bands are the rage right now. You can rake in more coin per gig than a regular cover band. The problem is I'm a songwriter myself and all I really want to play is original material. Don't get me wrong - I love Pink Floyd and a PF tribute band would be killer but I try to keep my cover tunes to "just a sprinkling." But you never know when I might get "A Momentary Lapse of Reason" and get my Gilmour on...

hehe momentary lapse of reason hehe i like that! oh and gilmour and syd were FUCKIN' hot! i still think gilmour is one of the hottest guitarists

I have to agree with you (at least on guitar-playing "hot"). One of the guitar player magazine that I subscribe to recently rated the 50 top solos of all time. Now that's a hard one. You might expect Hendrix or Stevie Ray..whatever. But the numero uno spot went to my man Gilmour for "Comfortably Numb." I read an interview once where he said he played various solos for hours for that song - just recorded them all and went back and picked "this piece" and "that piece" and put them together to form the solo that we hear on the wall. What a master! I'm not worthy...

i would've called that comfortably numb solo the best of all time too! that song has a special place in my heart cause it's the song that started my obsession with pink floyd.

let's see other pf songs that don't get talked about enough....'careful with that axe, eugene' and 'alan's psychedelic breakfast' i LOVE those two songs

Scrolled through this forum and saw the Beatles fans, Scorps and a couple others. Just wondering if there are any Floyd fans out there. I was asked to join a Pink Floyd Tribute Band this last week (I play guitar). I am curious to know how popular PF is outside of my area.

Secondly, if you come to this thread - you may as well mention you're fav album and song. Here's mine: After wearing out 2 copies of "Dark Side of the Moon" they had to go release "Wish You Were Here" so I could wear out some of them. Looking back all these years I think WYWH has lasted as my fav over DSOM and the later albums. As for songs, I usually play "Wish You Were Here" and "Comfortably Numb" live so they are obviously my favs.

Thirdly, Waters or Gilmour? I can't answer publicly - there is a big feud within my family over this one - ha!

I have to agree....WYWH and CN are definitely two of the best songs EVER

I have to agree with Umma Gumma. Several Species of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together in a Cave and Grooving with a Pict has got to be my all time favorite. Seen them 4 times so far and would do what ever I needed to to see them again in concert.

hehe why don't you give it a shot...one of my many regrets in life has been never having gotten to see them live. i would've given anything to be at the live 8 concert. that would've been amazing. the pulse DVDS will have to do until i finally scrape together enough cash to go i guess...call me a dewy eyed optimist but i'm still praying for a reunion!

The Wall Live is a must. Due to the constraints of vinyl - the studio release of The Wall was cut back - i.e. "Empty Spaces." The live version puts it out there the way it was intended to be. Plus its just a killer show - the game was on - it was smokin'...

A great album for its time, so diverse,
the live stuff, Astonomy Domine, Careful
With That Axe, Saucerfull, then the bizzare
Several Small Species and the beautiful
Granchester Meadows all 'gathered
together and grooving on one album'
Great stuff.

I also have a fondness for Atom Heart Mother,
saw them do it in Manchester, orchesta and
all.

But my favourite Floyd gigg has to be Knebworth
76ish. They did Dark Side Of The Moon, last band
to play on the saturday night, just awsome.
It still remains to this day the best live performance
i have ever seen.thumbs up

Thanks! What else are we gonna talk about - the weather? I don't jam to Pink Floyd near as much as I really should. I used to be a lead vocalist as well as guitarist and I lost my voice (nodes). I can still sing Roger Waters but I can't always sing the Gilmour parts. It's frustrating. However, I do listen to some Floyd in my office I would say nearly every day. It's like a "daily fix" thing - right?
