Did Spitzer actually bust the Wall Strret crowd.. Look at http://www.businessweek.com/investor/content/may2006/pi20060523_284791.htm and see if there was any justice with Robert Nardelli...

But many on Wall Street felt he went too far, pressuring ethically wayward but not necessarily criminal companies into agreeing to unfairly large settlements by threatening CEOs with prolonged legal battles. (Spitzer extracted at least $5 billion in penalties from financial firms, according to Masters.) In December 2005, former Goldman Sachs chairman John Whitehead, who was then chairing the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., alleged that Spitzer tried to bully him after Whitehead wrote a Wall Street Journal Op-Ed criticizing the attorney general's zealotry: "I will be coming after you," Spitzer allegedly told Whitehead, who said he immediately took notes of the conversation. "You will pay dearly for what you have done." (Spitzer's communications director Darren Dopp, who later left the administration under an ethics cloud, denied Whitehead's account.)

Spitzer got into trouble again just after taking office as governor. After reporters inquired as to whether Spitzer had used a state plane to fly to California for a fund-raising trip - he had not - Dopp asked state troopers to look into the state-funded travel habits of Spitzer's chief antagonist, Republican state-senate leader Joseph Bruno. When the trooper request was made public, the state GOP objected bitterly. Teams of investigators are still looking into whether the governor and his people illegally used their authority to try to intimidate Bruno.

Spitzer's approval ratings plummeted after his election; it didn't help that not long after becoming governor, Spitzer said to the Republican leader in the state assembly, "I'm a f______ steamroller, and I'll roll over you." Or that when he had a policy dispute with the popular mayor of New York City, Michael Bloomberg, Spitzer grandiosely said, "[Bloomberg] is wrong at every level - dead wrong, factually wrong, legally wrong, morally wrong, ethically wrong."

Sometimes its hard to be a woman
Giving all your love to just one man
You'll have bad times
And he'll have good times
Doing things that you don't understand
But if you love him you'll forgive him
Even though he's hard to understand
And if you love him
Oh be proud of him
'Cause after all he's just a man
Stand by your man
Give him two arms to cling to
And something warm to come to
When nights are cold and lonely
Stand by your man
And tell the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man
Stand by your man
And show the world you love him
Keep giving all the love you can
Stand by your man

I don't really understand why women do that...
By this, I mean that you would certainly think that she is hurting and angry and feeling so many emotions right now. Why would she step in front of all those cameras now? People would definitely understand if she chose NOT to "stand by her man" at this time. But high profile wives seem to always get out there and be brave little soldiers, bucking up, staying strong, yada, yada, yada.
I don't know about the rest of you, but I would not be a strong, supportive, brave wife. I would be alone somewhere, crying for awhile, then punching a pillow or something, then interviewing lawyers, then crying some more, etc.
He chose to step out on his own time and time again; he could stand on that dais alone, too, as far as I would be concerned.

JMO but from my experiences in having know several people in similar circumstances, the wives were willingly complicit; it was the tired old story of "I have headaches, don't touch me, go find someone else for your sexual needs..."I met one man who actually had his wife's permission; best wishes, actually, to go and find someone else if he "had urges"...personally, JMO, disgusting, that is no marriage but a charade.

Ben Stein had a great op ed piece on CBS Sunday Morning about the civil servants take down of Spitzer and the effects of a civil servants actions overturning a election outcome. Stein did not defend the wrongness of the gov's actions, just that Spitzer was the elected gov, by the people, (perhaps that's buy the people), elected for the people. Now a witch hunt has pulled down the elected official and put in probably a very nice guy, nothing against the Lt. Gov, but he was not elected for that job.
I see both sides, and truly feel sorrow for the Mrs Silda & Spitzer family. The Governor made his bed so to speak and now has to lie in it. But to the point, if no one crossed state lines, there is a question IF he broke any laws. Had it been me, I'm might have fought it. These previous posts make is seem Spitzer had enemies at Goldman Sachs. I lived in the Cayman Island for a decade.
Any enemy of those money grubbers is a friend of mine.
I did not agree with Clinton getting off lying to the American people about Monica Lewinski,,, and keeping the presidency. But Spitzer set himself up as Mr Untouchable and stood for family values.

Too bad.

Power corrupts absolutely.
