I do reply and try to gently advise that I am not interested. I even respond to flowers, and send one back with an answer. So times I send out flowers with no other reason then to make someone happy.angel

I'd like to say that not only women don't reply to e-mails or flowers; men are just as culpable.

No matter who corresponds with me, I always send back a note of thanks for their interest, and if I am not interested, I say so. It's only polite. But I have sent introductory messages inviting men to look at my profile and see what they think and I have received no response even though I know they have read my message.

It's simply a case of bad manners. No matter how full a mailbox is, it won't kill you to compose a simple sentence or two and cut and paste it to your inbox messages. A basic, "Thank you for your interest, but I am currently corresponding with someone special. Good luck in your search." would be nothing more than an act of kindness.

For those of you who think this is a good idea, cut the above sentence in quotation marks, and use it!

We who use these sites to enable us to meet new people should conduct ourselves in a manner that is appropriate to any social medium. scold

I started the thread about whether women's mailboxes were always stuffed partly to answer this question, because so many men report being igored. I am ignored constantly, all the time. Now I am old, another reason to not be interested, but is that a reason to ignore my messages completely? I wouldn't have thought it would be so difficult to type the one word message "sorry", but I don't even get that. So when I read on another forum on another site a woman complaining that her mailbox was always completely stuffed full, I thought that might explain it. It does seem that women do get a fair bit of mail (more that I do, that's for sure), but I still think there is something wrong.

You've never written me, I always answer, well almost always. Some 20-something year old wrote me one time, I started to tell him if he wanted to date his mother he should just stay home, but decided that was a little cruel. Before I could think of an appropriately nice reply his mail got pulled, so I guess I wasn't the only one. I'm a Southern girl, we were raised to have good manners.
As far as the original thread author, if your attitude sux as bad as it sounds on this thread no wonder you don't get many replies. Oops, there went my manners.

Greetings, all,

A couple of thoughts on this very difficult subject....

Keep in mind that at first people will make technical mistakes until they understand the functions and commands of the site. For example, it took me a while to realize that Flowers were in a separate folder than email. So I received a couple of flowers but only discovered it months after the posting. I have felt bad about the senders, who ended up concluding that I wasn't interested, or being rude to them.

I know, it was a stupid mistake on my part and if I had studied the site commands more closely I wouldn't have made it, but I did.

Second, we post profiles in order to both attract and deter. It is a sorting mechanism, but a highly imperfect one. For example, I am in excellent shape (e.g. 53 hps) and find that women my age generally -- generally -- are not. So my profile specifies that I am looking for a younger woman, in the assumption -- and that is all it is -- that a younger woman will be more fit than an older one.

I also ask for people not too much younger, because I find that they tend to be inadequately mature or experienced for me. The great problem, of course, is that these are generalities.

Older women can be just as fit or even fitter than I am. And even younger ones can have the maturity and experience that I cherish.

So what to do? I try and remain open. I try and remain courteous and friendly. I hope deeply to find 'the right one' some day, and I know that in the meantime I will meet a lot of fine people and I am very grateful for that. I anser those contacts, and am happy to do so. The world is good.

No?

Oceans
