Reading the stuff on here the "putting down" seems to be only about a few quite narrow topics and really only where it affects others. Bush, Iraq and a couple of other things is about the sum of it.
I read a lot about what a great country America is....yet the people saying that seem to be VERY sensitive to any implied criticism. Where is the self-confidence that goes with the knowledge that your country is great?
About the tax dollars that have helped rebuild other countries......is there an implied price? We give you money and you shut up about what we do in the world forever more? I don't believe you really feel that way.
It's just my opinion but one I would welcome your response to.
Sometimes the criticism is offensive because it is ill informed. Hollywoods success has given many a distorted view of the facts of American history etc, which they then use as a bassis of thier opinion.
Most Americans believe that the money spent on foriegn aid is an act of charity, and would like to believe that our involvement in foregn affairs is altrusic or for self preservation. When the recipient of our humanitarian efforts turns around and is critical of our efforts it is like biting the hand that feeds you.
