The reason I've started this thread is due to a few posts I just read.

***This post is not to offend anyone, nor is it to start an argument. It's to make a point and to make you think***

Kings/ rulers have been around for thousands of years. Religion has also been around for that long and longer. The Presidents are in essence "Kings". All of these rulers tend to be bound by their religions no matter who they are. How many times have we seen them attending religious services over the years? These rulers are also the ones who have claimed religious reasoning for putting people to death ie. "Witch Burnings" the "Holocaust" and I'm sure there's many more that I can't think of off the top of my head at the moment. There are many who refer to the bible and compare todays situations to those in the book of revelations.

Here are some questions to ponder...

Is it really necessary to compare things that were written a thousand years ago to todays world?

Do you think it's necessary for history to continually repeat itself?

Do we really have that many sheep in this world that can't and won't use their own brain, or draw their own conclusions about things, because their afraid?

I said this in another thread, and I will say it again. If we collectively think that things are only going to get worse, they will. If we collectively think that we can change things and make them better, we will. We all have a voice and a brain, it's just a matter of whether or not we choose to use it.

There's a saying that I heard a long time ago and I believe it to be true in many ways...Religion is for people who are afraid to go to hell. Spirituality is for people who have been there and lived to tell about it.

"Is it really necessary to compare things that were written a thousand years ago to today's world? "

No. But since we really don't know where we came from or where we're going, we tend to cling to any type of life-boat, real or imagined.

I am a very spiritual person, as I have been to hell and lived to tell about it. I am not fear motivated and I hate the religious rant of "Turn or Burn". I do not live by the Bible. I believe it is what it is. A book of Testimonies of peoples interactions with an invisable being known to them as Yahweh, Jehova, or God; both before and after Jesus of Nazareth walked on the earth and arose from the dead. I have a personal relationship with an invisible being, full of Wisdom and LOVE.

By reading these stories, or testimonies, we can understand that God will do the same in our lives, if only we believe.

There were visions and prophetic writings which are recorded in the Bible, referencing future events, particularly the "end times", recorded in the book of Revelations, which was a vision revealing the end times, given to John the apostle, one who walked with Jesus. This book is very detailed and many look to it as a reference as to where we are at today compared to the end time prophecy. Many things stated in the book of revelation, many believe they are happening now.

This is why so many make the comparison. They believe the Bible to be a reliable source.

You won't find what I have written on wikipedia or any other source. I wrote it myself. HealthyLiving

I'd be happy to find the missing thread that was supposedly humor filled regarding religion. I hope it didn't get pulled as I was methodically driving home a point. I'll pay a reward for the missing thread. professor

I won't steal a quote, so I'll say, "Religion is the Xanax of the masses".

Until we get free Xanax (health care) down here, it's probably cheaper to go to church.

I once heard from an atheist this version: "Religion is for people who are going to hell, spiritualism is for those afraid of a God".The person sold Family Bibles in North Carolina...
All depends on which religion or which religious teachings one follows. I'd never classify the Amish or Mennonites as sheep or unthinking; probably same for those who follow "Christian Science"( met a lot that worked for the Christian Science Monitor newspaper...and most likely the region the peoples are from. Roman Catholics in Europe are very independent minded, whereas in South America, let's say the rural areas around major cities, they indeed are more like sheep or cattle. That is not right. It is demeaning to be slavish .

Indy, let's start a new religion. I'll be Pope, you can be the Arch-Bishop. We can re-write the 10 commandments, but with multiple choice responses. Example; "thou shalt not kill", unless you find someone in bed with your wife, or some guy just pissed you off on the wrong day, etc.

Did you start the thread or did someone else? If it was someone else, who was it?
