I think Americans in general have lost sight of the true meaning of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This is liable to get me bullied a little from anyone/everyone that reads this, but it might also open your eyes to what I see is happening in the world.

I have decided to make a list of what I think Americans need to focus on/change to make things better...

1. "Support Our Troops"...what have you done today to support our troops--have you protested, have you went to the white house, have you sent letters, have you donated time and money, and more importantly have you even put any thought into the cause and effect of these actions you're doing.
2. "Let freedom Ring"...does that mean anything to you--it should, it should be a motto you live by--have you actually used a sentence with those words in it?
3. When was the last time you cried for no food, no money, no family? Granted there are the few that have none--but we usually call those people homeless, right. Think about it the next time you pass by your neighborhood and you see an old man with a sign pointed in your direction--think how lucky you are to be where you are.
4. Have you saluted a flag today? You know back in World War 1 and 2, people looked down at others when they didn't salute flags...a soldier passing by a flag and not saluting??? that's not very American is it.
5. The Constitution...do you know what it says in it? It is the boundary for Americans...it's why random people can't come in your house, it's why I can't be blamed for writing this(freedom of speech), it's why I don't feel bad to say I'm a Christian, it's why you can read this and call me an asshole, and it's also why the government has a little control--but not full control of your life as an American.
6. Thomas Jefferson...how much do you truly know of this man? Did he even do anything good for you...did he do anything good for America in general...think about it.
7. "I want that one"...if you never use those words in your life...you might not be an American. We have lost all meaning of take just what life gives you and forget about the rest. We have to have the biggest, coolest, most fancy, most extreme...everything. Bet you won't find that in Cuba, Africa, Saudia-Arabia, and some of the other small countries/provinces--they get what they earn...nothing more and nothing less.
8. Do you thank your "God" for everything? In God We Trust...do those words mean a lot to you? They should--those words are on every single dollar bill you spend on food, movies, tools, cars, houses, at Wal-Mart, and anything else you "need".
9. GEORGE BUSH...here we go--how many people actually hate this man. Me--I think if there is problems with war, gas prices, family, jobs, and mortgages--I'm going to try to find someone better to blame than the president of the United States. But you can blame your misfortunes on whoever you choose--I mean you're American you can do that right.
10. And my last one-The laws of America...The Bill of Rights--say every word of the Bill of Rights right now--I'll wait...back in early 1900's it was common for everyone to know their rights and use them accordingly. Police knew their boundaries, politicians knew what was right, and Americans knew no matter what...they had a set of guidelines to "follow", which is why our Fore-Fathers created the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.

Disclaimer:
I hope I didn't offend anyone--however if I did offend you, I atleast made you think a little bit while you were reading this...please don't send me hate messages, I mean no harm--this is totally my opinion--maybe not yours, so please understand I'm not trying to offend anyone or be rude in any kind of way.

It sure sounds good on paper, doesn't it. The reallity is we have no rights anymore, they are slowly being stripped away in the name of power, greed and fear. Governments are elected to look out for the interests of we the people, not we the government.

Hell you can't even park your car where you want because there is some corporate war going on over who should get the parking revenue. I wonder how many of the man's laws we break everyday just living our lives?

I'm sorry but that constitution isn't worth the paper it was written on. Look at Washington DC banning hand guns, a direct violation of the second ammendment, Yet it's been that way since the 70's! Where is your federal government in up holding the constitution?

I started not to read this, cause I think I have more than half a brain. grin Glad I did, it's a good one. thumbs up

And, I'm getting tired of Canadians or Danish or whoever, telling Americans what rights we have or don't have. Speak for youselves, not for us.

I appologize, We will just crawl under a rock! So typical of some on this forum, no one else is allowed to have an opinion.

I rest my case.

Rest your case about what?

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound like you couldn't have an opinion, or express it. I was just expressing mine, which I do have the right to do. thumbs up

I would be more interested in your opinion of your country rather than mine. I never hear anyone talking about or bashing their own countries, just the US. dunno

Oh well, I guess that's what we get for being biggest and best. grin

The only thing we are considered biggest and best at now is a threat to world peace. And people do need to THINK about the FREEDOMS we are losing in this process, about the jobs we are losing, the respect we are losing. We are not winning anything.....

Please don't take this as an "us against them" statement...but like the OP said just to get people to THINK

As long as America gets involved with other countries via War and politics we are very much entitled to have an opinion on same policies. What America is rapidly becoming the biggest and the best in, is no longer something to be proud of and the reason so many people are critical of you is because of this.

I am critical of a lot of American policies as I am of my own countries but this does not mean I am anti American, it just means that I care what happens in this World.

Of course you do, as I have the right to express mine. My point exactly, that we do have rights. I was just replying to his statement that we have none.

Yes, we are losing rights all the time, I blame that more on Congress, since they are the ones who write the laws. But as I've stated before, I don't care what kind of silly laws they pass. It's only illegal if you get caught. They can only take our rights away if we relinquish them.
