As long as America gets involved with other countries via War and politics we are very much entitled to have an opinion on same policies. What America is rapidly becoming the biggest and the best in, is no longer something to be proud of and the reason so many people are critical of you is because of this.

I am critical of a lot of American policies as I am of my own countries but this does not mean I am anti American, it just means that I care what happens in this World.

What happens in the US effects the rest of the world, especially Canada. So I do see it in my best interest to have an idea of what's going on south of our border.

Besides, Canadian politics is boooooring. laugh

ABB, I have to agree with Tampa1 on this... what you did was basically tell him he shouldn't post an opinion instead of arguing what he posted. He has a right to post an opinion, and you have a right to refute that opinion, but not to tell him he shouldn't post one.

Believe me you're not the only one doing this, I have seen it over and over and seems to be the root of most of the problems here. Why is it so difficult to differentiate between debating a post (the information or opinion in the post) and debating the individual? We all have the right to an opinion and we all have a right to challenge an opinion, but not to tell someone to stay out of it, that they don't have a right to an opinion or that they're stupid, or any of the other insults that continue to plague this site.

Please ABB, understand I am not picking on you, yours was mild compared to many other posts, it was just an example that came along while I was feeling fed up with good people leaving and the constant bickering that seems to show up in nearly every thread.

Very humbly, I says this to you. The only major war, my family has missed.....was the Revolutionary War. My family has sent loved family members to each and everyone of them since. Some times as privates....sometimes as Generals....and every rank in between. One time they actually fought against each other in the Civil War.

Every American family can or will make a similar claim. Even ones that come to this country in the last few years. Every culture, or race, or man or woman that is an American, has a right to defend and serve this country.

But being an American, is not just about defending it. It is also about being a part of it. Americans come in all flavors, in all shapes, have views that are divergant and intersecting. When one hurts, we all hurt. When one suceeds, we all suceed. Such is the broader American family.

Each American has unique skills and talents. Some God given, others learned by many hours of study and testing. Many years of training and dedication. Each American tries to share these skills and talents with fellow Americans, in fair and just manner according to the laws of the land.

This broad American family, is unique in the world today. It will argue among itself on the virtues of a canidate, a law, a development, or issue. It will stand against injustice and for fairness. It will
take the flame of democracy, and deposit it in the darkest of lands. Fan it with both treasury and blood....the greatest sacrifice.

This American family is still open, for others to join and to be a part of.
It asks only that one does in a legal manner, without guile or pretense.
When they do, they to can lay claim and someday make a humble similar claim as mine.

Sounds like the Canadian electorate is a bunch of candy asses if they won't elect someone who'll stand up to the United States. You get the government you elect.

Actually, every damn country represented on here says the same thing...that they're led around by the nose.

I think Americans in general have lost sight of the true meaning of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. This is liable to get me bullied a little from anyone/everyone that reads this, but it might also open your eyes to what I see is happening in the world.

I have decided to make a list of what I think Americans need to focus on/change to make things better...

1. "Support Our Troops"...what have you done today to support our troops--have you protested, have you went to the white house, have you sent letters, have you donated time and money, and more importantly have you even put any thought into the cause and effect of these actions you're doing.
2. "Let freedom Ring"...does that mean anything to you--it should, it should be a motto you live by--have you actually used a sentence with those words in it?
3. When was the last time you cried for no food, no money, no family? Granted there are the few that have none--but we usually call those people homeless, right. Think about it the next time you pass by your neighborhood and you see an old man with a sign pointed in your direction--think how lucky you are to be where you are.
4. Have you saluted a flag today? You know back in World War 1 and 2, people looked down at others when they didn't salute flags...a soldier passing by a flag and not saluting??? that's not very American is it.
5. The Constitution...do you know what it says in it? It is the boundary for Americans...it's why random people can't come in your house, it's why I can't be blamed for writing this(freedom of speech), it's why I don't feel bad to say I'm a Christian, it's why you can read this and call me an asshole, and it's also why the government has a little control--but not full control of your life as an American.
6. Thomas Jefferson...how much do you truly know of this man? Did he even do anything good for you...did he do anything good for America in general...think about it.
7. "I want that one"...if you never use those words in your life...you might not be an American. We have lost all meaning of take just what life gives you and forget about the rest. We have to have the biggest, coolest, most fancy, most extreme...everything. Bet you won't find that in Cuba, Africa, Saudia-Arabia, and some of the other small countries/provinces--they get what they earn...nothing more and nothing less.
8. Do you thank your "God" for everything? In God We Trust...do those words mean a lot to you? They should--those words are on every single dollar bill you spend on food, movies, tools, cars, houses, at Wal-Mart, and anything else you "need".
9. GEORGE BUSH...here we go--how many people actually hate this man. Me--I think if there is problems with war, gas prices, family, jobs, and mortgages--I'm going to try to find someone better to blame than the president of the United States. But you can blame your misfortunes on whoever you choose--I mean you're American you can do that right.
10. And my last one-The laws of America...The Bill of Rights--say every word of the Bill of Rights right now--I'll wait...back in early 1900's it was common for everyone to know their rights and use them accordingly. Police knew their boundaries, politicians knew what was right, and Americans knew no matter what...they had a set of guidelines to "follow", which is why our Fore-Fathers created the Constitution and the Bill of Rights.Disclaimer:
I hope I didn't offend anyone--however if I did offend you, I atleast made you think a little bit while you were reading this...please don't send me hate messages, I mean no harm--this is totally my opinion--maybe not yours, so please understand I'm not trying to offend anyone or be rude in any kind of way.

America...the land of the free and the home of the brave.

Actually we have had some great leaders in the past but I certainly didn't vote for the tool we have in power at the moment.

We didn't go to Iraq but we are in Afghanastan. That's one particular time I felt happy that someone in Ottawa did say no. I remember the hatred that was spewed by the American press and people alike.
Do you remember that?
Funny how things turn out isn't it.confused

None of the politicians I've voted for at a provincial or federal level have made it into office. I guess it would be the same if I was an American though. I'd vote for Ron Paul, not any of the three ring circus acts that the media is pushing.

I see it as more of the same here and there. The one that should be at the helm is rarely the one that is. It has happened in the past but nowadays politics and running for office is a popularity contest, nothing more.
Go ahead and deny it.

Bully for you! There are those within the US that do not want anyone to even begin thinking especially for themselves. There are many that would find what you have written rebellious and downright dangerous, bordering on sedition. Most of those types seem to work for , employed by the Media and some branches of your own government , not even to mention the White House...all depends upon your perspective of just who, really is the enemy. Good luck,; the roles of patriots can be quite hazardous as many have found out since Ruby Ridge...

By Matt on Mar 24th, 2008 at 11:21 am O’Donnell: 76 Percent Of Americans ‘Want A Candidate Who Has Policies Different Than President Bush’»
On NBC’s The Chris Matthews Show yesterday, Matthews and his guests discussed how Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) sounds “an awful lot like George Bush” when he talks about Iraq. At the beginning of the show, Matthews previewed the segment by asking, “Is it wise to tell voters he’s running for a third term of Bush’s war?”

To illustrate his point, Matthews aired footage of Bush and McCain making the same rhetorical arguments about Iraq this past Wednesday:

“If we were to allow our enemies to prevail in Iraq, the violence that is now declining would accelerate and Iraq would descend into chaos.”
– President Bush, 3/19/08

VERSUS

“I believe that if we set a date for withdrawal, you will see chaos and genocide in the region.”
– Sen. John McCain (R-AZ), 3/19/08

During the segment, NBC’s Norah O’Donnell said that McCain was “not smart to make himself sort of a G.I. Joe candidate” because “a whopping 76 percent, in our latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, said they want a candidate who has policies different than President Bush.” “This country wants to move on from that,” said O’Donnell."

I cannot say why so many Americans were able to be blindly led and manipulated into voting for this moron again. Maybe it was a little extra cash. Maybe it WAS fear.

I will risk blatering ideology and say that I do know that people don't usually change until they have been affected themselves personally.
I want to hope that many Americans are finally somehow waking up and don't want to keep swallowing the sh*t and being led blindly, but speak out for change. We can do our best to get a politician to do what is in our interest anyway. In my opinion anyone would be better than the irresponsisble liar that is in office now.

It sure sounds good on paper, doesn't it. The reallity is we have no rights anymore, they are slowly being stripped away in the name of power, greed and fear. Governments are elected to look out for the interests of we the people, not we the government.

Hell you can't even park your car where you want because there is some corporate war going on over who should get the parking revenue. I wonder how many of the man's laws we break everyday just living our lives?

I'm sorry but that constitution isn't worth the paper it was written on. Look at Washington DC banning hand guns, a direct violation of the second ammendment, Yet it's been that way since the 70's! Where is your federal government in up holding the constitution?

I honestly don't see how the above comment is in any way bashing America!
It is nothing but fact. When I was younger and knew no better, I believed what our Government told us. Thank God I have become wiser as I have aged.
If anything it is the USA that should be crawling under a rock in shame!!

We elected Bush, we elected the house and senate, we gave the power to all that voted to start this BS war.
Some say... Our troops fight to keep our freedoms and our freedom of speech. What a crock of S(^T!
Sure.. we can say anything we want to in our home.. behind closed doors, but try to make a public speech without a permit ( that the city or state get to decide if you can or not). is that free speech??
and we have only had 1 war with honest reasons.. getting Hitler out!

No- pearl harbor was not right either, we were already fight them, for no good reason. they were defending themselves. but we basically use it as a reason to drop THE BOMB.
We are the only Country to ever DROP THE BOMB, talk about mass destruction!! then we have the gall to tell other Countries that they can not make these same bombs to defend themselves, cant even test them, and we go after Sadam for WMD??? WTF?!

now lets cover our Government in the 60s and 70s during the war...
The Government supplied the masses with all kinds of drugs as an attempt of mind control, try to keep us so stoned that we wouldn't pay attention to the war, how many lives we lost over there for no reason at all except profits, then as soon as the war ended,, they begin arresting off of the drug users?! all of the sudden- the drugs are our enemy- now begins the war on drugs! ( we have to have some kind of war right)
Now list all of the freedoms we have lost! and we are letting it happen.
We never own a Home, as soon as we don't pay taxes they will take it,same with our cars or anything else we own, Our government can and will take everything you have if you cant or don't pay taxes. what kind of a freedom is this?!
now lets look at the voting system.. the candidates and backers actually have the right to Tell many thousands of Americans that their votes will not count!!!!!
WTF!! Wake up America..We need to get back to popular vote counting and every American gets a vote!! write to your senate congressman and President! SCREAM AND BE HEARD- YOU WANT TO FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHTS AND OUR FREEDOM- DON'T DO IT IN ANOTHER COUNTRY- TAKE IT TO OUR OWN GOVERNMENT!

yay
