I have worked professionaly in this area for over 20 yrs now.

I have had a lifelong Interest in Philosophy and Religion, I had read the complete Bible for the first time by age 15, and have studied all of the major religions and spent time with members of of as many of them as I could.

I do have personal beliefs and this is why I find it interesting to talk with people from as many faiths as possible.
I am still studying and probably will be for the rest of my life.

I just received this and thought it was great, would love to share it with you guys....WHAT A GREAT ANALOGY OF GOD FOR THOSE WHO DON'T KNOW
BY ROBIN WILLIAMS NO LESS

This is one of the best explanations
of why God allows pain and suffering
that I have seen. It's an explanation
other people will understand.

A man went to a barbershop to have
his hair cut and his beard trimmed.
As the barber began to work,
They talked about so many things
and various subjects.

When they eventually touched on
the subject of God, the barber said:
'I don't believe that God exists.'

'Why do you say that?'
asked the customer.
'Well, you just have to go out in
the street to realize that God
doesn't exist. Tell me, if God exists,
would there be so many sick people?
Would there be abandoned children?
If God existed, there would be neither
suffering nor pain.
I can't imagine loving a God who
would allow all of these things.'

The customer thought for a moment,
but didn't respond because he didn't
want to start an argument.
The barber finished his job and the customer
left the shop.
Just after he left the barbershop,
he saw a man in the street with long,
stringy, dirty hair and an untrimmed
beard.
He looked dirty and un-kept.

The customer turned back and entered
the barber shop again and he said
to the barber:
'You know what? Barbers do not exist.'

'How can you say that?'
asked the surprised barber.
'I am here, and I am a barber.
And I just worked on you!'

'No!' the customer exclaimed.
'Barbers don't exist because
if they did, there would be no
people with d irty long hair
and untrimmed beards,
like that man outside.'

'Ah, but barbers DO exist!
What happens is, people
do not come to me.'

'Exactly!'-
affirmed the customer.
'That's the point!
God, too, DOES exist!
What happens, is, people
don't go to Him
and do not look for Him.
That's why there's so much pain
and suffering in the world.'
BE BLESSED & BE A BLESSING!

'Do not ask the Lord to guide your footsteps if you're not willing to move your feet.'

That's really cool way to say it. I always attributed it to ourselves, the reason for suffering and pain in the world. That we make choices that take us farther away from God, and because we are so far away, we are unhappy.
It's kinda like moving away from family, you know they're there for you, but sometimes when they're not immediately close to you, you feel lost.

That's what we have said before...you can't say he does not exist or abandons you because when u feel bad, have problems and u call him he doesnt come to you...thats what some people believe, but what about when everythings great, then is not God...it's US, right?

Anyway..God withous us, or us without God makes no sense...

Thank you anjel.

So much harm has been done by us humans in the name of God, that it defies trying to decipher 'IT/HIM/HER' in words.

The dream may be over.
But HOPE for the better is not.
Differnet names have been given to GOD throughout the ages, and still it remains a mystery.

Maybe God is just....within?

I agree with you on the God 'within' part however.. 'much harm has been done by us humans in the name of RELIGION... there is a difference I am afraid.. Religion sucks!!!! JMO

So now I am wondering is there a spectrum of belief from very conservative, "by the book believers" to people who refer only to spirituality and somehow seem to sound akin to Buddhism or an other Philosophical belief.

And if so is it possible that every person chooses that which fits their understanding of the World.

I am searching to find words here....

Hiya Patrick wave

I think in order to have any kind of understanding of God (internally) you have to disregard Religion altogether.. well Religious Dogma at least.. I think that if anything it actually diverts peoples attentions away from God.. God is within, and all around us.. I feel if a persons heart and mind are open u are more likely to find God in ur deepest thought and feelings and in all the beauty that is around us.. and even in other people JMO

I see God as the Force that connects us together with the vibrant flow of the universe and beyond.
We are God and have God's energy in us. God does not decide our destiny....we decide with our choices and thoughts. God is everything and we can never really understand the meaning or concept of God....Jesus and Muhammed specifically stated this in the respective scriptures.
I hate when people refer God as a man. And I hate when people blame God for the shit world. We should blame ourselves, our politicians, our corrupt system, and our individual and collective choices. We are in a very cruel vibration in this astral plane. Evolve and make the right choices according to your paradigm that is in line with the laws of the universe if you want to go to a better plane.

Religion...at least Judaism, Christianity, and Islam.....creates false saviors....we can only save ourselves with our choices. We cannot rely on God to save us or some religion to rescue us. I can say that religion is helpful for those who really need it, but I think our spiritual evolution is taking us in the direction that everybody will have their own spirituality outside the dogmas of the 5 main religions. Somehow, the religions don't seem to really get their message through to humans. Maybe we humans are just too full of desire and ego to really evolve at a faster rate.

yes that is a good explanation, but there are a lot of people who understand differently and this is what I am interested in here.

This is primarily a thread by people who believe in I think, the existence of a God outside of themselves although everyone seems to have a different take on this.

I am curious as to how people see God whether internal/external and whether there is a spectrum of philosophical development related to this.

I am trying to figure this out as I go along please feel free to help me on this if you understand where I am coming from.

Hiya Patrick.. I am quoting this post because to a large extent it conforms to my understanding of God also.. I believe that God spirit is in us, all around us and connects us... and that collectively we have the potential to be GODLY...i.e. perfectly loving... however I don't believe we ARE God..that is where I would differ..

A poem sort of came as an inspiration to me some years ago.. which to an extent illustrates my understanding of God..

I need a bright blossoming yellow flower
and passion and fire to empower
my dying romantisism
the many lights of my childishness locked
in a transparent prism

Your life isn't your own without other people...
it belongs to misery
that colourful array of sounds
is ur reason for being
don't look to the dark side
look to the bright
it is the signature of every picture

We need to find our way back to the light that is inside us.. all!! and we need to seek out the light in others.. the best way to do this is to reflect our light on them... it is like we are trapped in a prism.. we need light to give life to the many colours that we possess...

Also.. the bad bits (jealousy, envy, greed, pride etc.. etc) We ALL have in common.. it is the good bits... the endearing bits that make us unique as individuals.. now I know that you have to look alot closer in some people to see this light.. and in yet others the light is all but blacked out.. but it is never the less there..

So you understand God as an entity outside of yourself, A spiritual entity. How would you describe this entity? As a ever-living ever-powerful presence? A consciousness, a being, intelligent outside of ourselves. I am trying very hard to put words on this for you probably failing.

Or is it that you have no explanation for what you believe in other than that there is something?

It's far easier for humanity to accept that they will go on to a safe haven and be forgiven for all, rather than to question the existence of a super omnipotent being.

I agree it probably is far easier to do this, but a whole lot of people do believe that there is something, and I respect this.

I am trying to understand why people choose to believe, in what they do believe in as it seems a lot of people "Invent" their own concept of God and this to me is very interesting and very creative.

Yes the 'alpha' and the 'omega' the beginning and the end the grand creator of this grand design... we are part of his universe, we are all connected through him, with him and in him.. it is hard to describe.. and I won't have the arrogance to assume that I have all the answers..

What do you believe Patrick.. any thought on what has been said so far.. I know that you are the type of person who requires scientific confirmation of facts.. do you believe in any entity outside urself.. like BnaturAl for example.. he has his own unique spiritual beliefs which are nevertheless spritual in origin.. whats ur take? am curious wine cheers
