Do we scare people off the forums ??

Posted: Apr 8, 2008, 11:05 AM CST
It makes me wonder why so many new posters seem to be disheartened or driven off the forums. There have been threads offlate to discuss and make the point and some of them have been so warm and encouraging for new members.
Many a times it must be cos of us but other times it must be them ..
dunno

* I wonder if we are expecting too much of " forum etiquette "
from people? What do you think ?

* Is it up to us to make people feel welcome and make them feel
comfortable or is it up to them to mix and join in the threads ?

* Do you think people resort to rude posting time and again to get
noticed or make a point ( new or old anyone )?

* Keeping in mind this is a dating site , are we many a times way off
track making it boring for people actually looking for a partner ?
hmmm

* Is this an issue to even think about at all ? If yes, what can be done
about it ??

hi riya

yes ive tried to discuss this many many times
its generally met w/ silence

im sure youll have a bit better luck

it is a shame that there are thousands and thousands of members on CS and how many are regulars on the forum??

its a bummer

and yes ive seen so many scared off, being ridiculed because their grammar wasnt 'right'-which is crazy-so many on CS dont even speak english as a first language

or how about when wereally encourage someone to come in and then when they get up the nerve someone jumps on their spelling

i remember in the beginning of my time here a few ppl wrote me w/ support and suggestions in mail...
i still do that today for others cuz it was so helpful for me

i was here months before i came into forums and it wasnt even a scary place then-i was just-dont laff-afraid

dunno

far as im concerned we need ALOT more forum members...

maybe if i didnt write so much haiku
truly people watch forums and you dont even have to be a member of CS to do that btw-anyone can read every post.

its hard to come in when people are screaming, insulting or seeming like its 3 ppl everyone knows and they all just say hi how are you-so how would a new person see themselves fitting in???

moping

Sometimes it feels like there is just a bunch of old codgers here...talking, debating about all sorts of things and having very little sense of humor or sense of fun and abandonment. There are "fun sites" out there, as much as we try to make this just a fun site, it doesn't always work. I think that all the b*tching and moaning about others and what they are doing in the threads makes for a bad impression. We are here to meet and greet and maybe make friend connections as well as love connections. Boring is the worst thing to be..............

jmo

say what you want, but I remember a lighter time where, while not everyone got along, there was a lot of fun, and wild abandonment, and it is considered the good old days by most...

again....jmo..........teddy bear

I think some of the new "would-be-regular-posters" are put off by all the boring chit chat amongst seemingly cliquey members. They must feel like they've turned up at a party where everyone knows each other except themselves so they feel ignored and vow never to return.

Also, I think some of the photos are scary so they could possibly deter a few from returning.

Hmmm, some newcomers also seem to be quite serious and suffer from weird-sense-of-humour failure so they probably think we too weird for them.

That's all I can think of for now professor

God .. it does sound scary if i was to be off forums and reading our arguments sometimes .

Sometimes we dont intend to be so rude to each other but our posts get rude ... an onlooker will find it difficult to actually perceive that.

I agree with the points you have made Mindfful and its soooo true.

I guess we should do our part and let things take its course. Automatically, people will feel like joining in then.

And we DO need so many more people.

Yeah, we all need to go round up 100 blokes from our areas. Then we'd have more chance of getting a bloke or two, three, four or even more each and distance wouldn't be a problem thumbs up

I have to say as a fairly new member to this site and to the forums it is quite difficult to get in to any sort of conversation on here as your face/name isn't known by the regulars.

I'm sure it's not deliberate but it is very clique on here at times..

Still, onwards and upwards and all that.

Mostly agree....

The way it feels to me is kinda like the pub on the moors in the Film An American Werewolf in London......

The strangers wander in and get greeted with the sudden silence and the looks.....

Then the locals carry on as before...
