Are age and wisdom synonymous?

Is it as simple as that? Do we naturally accumulate wisdom as the years pass us by, or are some amongst us, regardless of age, just a little more switched on?

And by wisdom, I'm thinking the ability to apply knowledge gained to better ourselves and others. I believe wisdom isn't just knowledge in itself.

Are all young people naive, and older folk wise by definition as some seem to suggest?

Oh, and you're all responsible for your own conduct on this here thread. I take no responsibility for any ensuing battles.giggle

Detente, I'd say that there is only a marginal correspondence between age and wisdom (except in my case, of courseblushing).

Wisdom is basically a function of one's intellectual abilities and one's desire to understand. If you don't have those things, you'll just be spinning your mental wheels into dotage and will likely end up with merely a lot of wrinkles and an incessant hankering for cheap beer.

If only it were as simple as age=wisdom!

Unfortunately, one can be as old as the dirt on the hinges of hell... but all that experience wont do a thing for them unless they utilize it!
A young & resourceful person can sweep us all in a blind moment.

I think the phrase "With age comes wisdom" is a myth and was probably made up by some old fogey who thought he/she knew it all....when in fact they knew nothing at all professor

I definitely think some of the younger more intelligent ones are more clued up and wise beyond their years thumbs up

Then again you get some young stupid people that are still wisdomless when they get old, some people and somethings never change.

All depends on the individual I suppose dunno

I don't think all young people are naive just as all old people are not wise. Some people are instilled with common sense early in life , some have to learn the hard way, some learn by example of seeing someone else making mistakes and some just never learn...lol

You live and learn is the answer to this. Each mistake, experience teaches us. The older you get, the wiser you become.

Agreed !

Well, older age has a few downsides: it withdraws us from many active accomplishments, it renders the body less powerful, it deprives us of quite a few forms of enjoyment and it usually stands not far from death.

Nevertheless, there are upsides: usually less work, more wisdom for some of us (needs a trained and healthy brain though) and better taste for wine wine

At the end old age isn't so bad when you consider the alternative….
