So, can it be assumed, from the above, that psychopathic killers are lacking to some degree, in wisdom?confused

No, just sociopaths. Psychopaths may be more flexible.

Apart from the violence element.. what is the essential difference? I know that sociopaths are the types because of their own lack of ability to experience emotion/true empathy that they kind of feed of others, and create this charming false persona... I thought Psychopaths were essentially the same...but for the violence lust bit i.e. Sociopaths will fake regret.. Psychopaths won't give a sh*t dunno

wave Hiya Bajan...

cheers

dunno Not what I meant to say... I was maybe thinking psychotic- been a long day.

Just found this in wikepedia

It is estimated that approximately 1% of the general population are psychopaths. They are overrepresented in prison systems, politics, law enforcement agencies, and law firms, and in the media

Scary ain't it?

Hiya Bajan...

Yeah I was mixing up my p words there...i believe people use the two terms pretty much interchangeably

I know sociopaths do make the effort to blend in and will pretend to a depth of emotion they do not actually feel.

Most wisdom contains empathy for the plight of others ...so no feelings, no empathy....no wisdom?

the point being made is that a person needs to 'know' and 'recognise' and be capable of introspection in order to learn, and thereby acquire 'wisdom'. An example of Serial Killer was given(by Chris), and seeing as most Serial Killers are Psychopaths, I made the assessment that it was unlikely that these people would be capable of gaining 'wisdom' as a consequence of their actions, due to their overall lack of empathy/emotion, and the fact that they actually 'enjoy' their actions.. the same could be said.. perhaps to a lesser degree of Sociopaths again due to their inherent lack of emotion/empathy.

Wisdom is largely linked to emotional intelligence, this is why emotional intelligence is becoming (in some ways)more important to IQ...

Can we do our own diagnosis...or is that unsafe?

Should we perhaps err to the judgement of those who know more when it comes to labeling so called sociopaths?dunno

Thanks!

It would seem that lots of research would be needed to accuratelt ascertain the true state of being of anybody with supposed sociopathic tendencies.

Indeed, labeling someone a sociopath because it suits us could be seen as highlu unwise.
