I have seen a pic out of Iraq. A mech unit was going on a mission, a dangerous one. Why? Because a black NCO decided it was time for
a Bible and prayer time. They don't do that unless what is coming is
dangerous. The prayer session had ended, and they decided to have
a group hug,
In the group....there was the Black nco holding the Bible, two female medics...one white and one hispanic.....and three infantry grunt types....one white, one hispanic, one black. That is when the pic was taken. In this group of mutli enthinc American soldiers about to something, most here would say is deadly. Some of them might not be there tomorrow.
Why do I bring this up?
Well post Vet Nam, the military services of the United States have largely become color blind. We worked very hard to end racial inequalities to promotion, to training, to assignment. The young service people that are coming back from Iraq or Afghaniastan.....have seen or heard stories of a hispanic Marine jumbing on a grenade to save his buddies (a Medal of Honor), a white Army female medic shielding 5 of her wound unit members with her body to move them to safe location (a Silver Star).....and many other such stories of valor......where race had absolutelly nothing to do with the act.
Yet since, the South Carolina primary, when former Commander in Chief Bill Clinton made a racial comment or a comment the has been taken that way by the Obama camp. There has been the effort, some time direct and sometime indirect to 'play the race card'. According to
Bill Clinton, they have memo from inside the Obama camp, saying this was the 'plan along' to get him into a such position. It was why in media and indvidual questions, that the questions lead to this. That the questions are coming from the Obama camp to discredit him as being a racist.
Obama is running to be commander in Chief of this very non racial United State military. It has an outstanding record in modern days to fighting the inequality of race. That a Collin Powell can raise in the ranks to be a General and to be Head of Joint Chiefs says this. Yet if Obama lets the race card, either knowingly or unknowingly, be played from his camp, he is not suitable to be the commander in chief of the United State military. In my opinion. We should expect him to run a campaign to the same standards he would have in office. And as Command in Chief. If he plays the race card to become Commander in Chief, will he not play the race card be played after he is?
Bill Clinton is no racist. He support many programs for racial equality. He avoided the million man march, because of the men that were going to speak there.....Louis Ferracon and others and what they were going to speak on. For Obama not to have stopped his camp from playing the race card or worse to approve it use, shows that his standard is below the standard our military has today in race issues. Our military is color blind to the most part.......is Senator Obama? his camp? The Rev Wright issue, the Geraldine Ferraro issue, and B. Clinton issue tells me, he is not.
