I am of the opinion though that if slavery never occurred, .. if white missionaries and explorers had come in true peace and had respected our culture and tradition and not imposed the western culture on Africa under the guise of civilization, .. racism might actually have an entirely different meaning.
This is something that stemmed from black people been eventually looked down upon as slaves after having been transported from Africa in conditions that even animals were not subjected to. The white man still has a problem with letting go of that mentality and an average Caucasian does not want to be seen rubbing shoulders with a black person. Even other races with lighter skin dissociate themselves as much as possible and act detached in unavoidable situations. Now isn't this enough to inspire a reverse effect ?
I will not justify black hatred towards whites either but it is not the root of this matter.
I have white friends and colleagues and we get along like peas in a pod but we always know deep within when we approach the lines, .. awkward and dis-oriented reflexes often gives that away easily.
Whether we like it or not, .. racism thrives and can never be erased, .. so I think it is always better to just shut the hell up and live your life to the full, .. fight it though, only if it stands in your way which it often doesn't when you get your priorities right.
It will be unfair if it is eventually concluded that Barrack Obama didn't win this elections due to racial prejudice, .. I would rather see it as the odds being against him and that he came as far as he could and did well enough, .. at least he made much more impact than General Collin Powell could ever dream to have made since he never got up from sitting on his butt.
Life is bubbly fun and I will readily date anyone as long as the feeling is mutual and if I get stared at by her folks, .. I would ask them if there is a problem .. (like staring can take a strand out of my hair).

Oh just reread your post...

you are playing my song...
Same as Bastian..
He tells me his family in Jamaica would love me to death yet I cannot tell him the same...
I want to learn about his culture as I feel less than I am if I don't...
I will add when I spent three years in the middle east amongst muslims families I was never in one moment made to feel inferior or a certain religion or colour.
