Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi

Across the country, the price of oil keeps getting higher and higher, and American families are getting pummeled hit hard at the pump amidst a weakening economy. Regular gasoline reached $3.56 a gallon this week 23 percent more than a year ago, and more than double the price when President Bush took office. While the Democratic-led Congress has passed a number of key bills to reduce the burden of rising gas prices, the President has threatened to veto each and every one. It is time for the President to end his stubborn opposition and support key House-passed legislation such as the No Oil Producing and Exporting Cartels (NOPEC) Act, The Energy Price Gouging Act, and the Renewable Energy and Energy Conservation Tax Act.

This week, Speaker Pelosi urged the President to temporarily suspend deliveries of oil to the Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR), which could cut as much as five to 24 cents off a gallon of gas. Currently, the reserve is nearly 97 percent full; suspending delivery will increase oil supply as well as lower energy prices, by sending the message to stop runaway speculation. This is not an unprecedented action: before the first Gulf War, the first President Bush withdrew oil from the SPR, and the current President Bush withdrew oil following Hurricane Katrina in 2005. Unlike Senator McCain's plan to impose a temporary tax moratorium that may not even reach consumers and may not even be passed on to Americans our plan will help consumers instead of helping Big Oil reap even bigger profits.

As Big Oil companies rake in billions of dollars, American families need someone on their side. ConocoPhilips, the third largest oil company, reported this week that its first quarter earnings climbed 17 percent $4.1 billion for the first quarter, a nearly $600 million profit. In the House, Democrats have already passed legislation to fight high gas prices. Now it is time for the President, and his Republican allies in Congress, to stop protecting Big Oil, and start working to bring relief to Americans feeling the pain at the gas pump. It really chaps me that the idiot shrub said he would VETO any bills regarding lowering the rising cost of fuel!!!
Why is this creature still the President??? It is so obvious that he wants death and destruction to come to our Nation!! Why hasn't Congress Impeached him and his gang??? They are CRIMINALS!!!
All opinions on this are very welcome.

Is this the same Nancy Pelosi that promised if Dems were elected in 06 that gas prices would come down a $1.00 a gallon. rolling on the floor laughing Pelosi's a party hack~~if you believe the bullshit she says, I have pity for you.

How is Congress going to control oil prices when it's world demand that is the main problem. The oil "reserves" are there for a crisis situation, not when Americans are feeling a pinch. It may be a good thing they're making record profits, since it takes a whole lot of $$$ to drill in the few remaining places Dems (envirocrats) allow drilling. (such as Anwar) Any tax you put on any corporation gets passed on to the consumer. It doesn't take much sense to figure that out~

PERTH (Reuters) - Oil struck a record high at $119.93 a barrel on Monday, extending the previous session's rally, as a strike closed a major British oil pipeline and as fresh violence in Nigeria reignited supply fears.

Simmering geopolitical tensions between the United States and Iran also helped boost oil prices.

U.S. light crude for June delivery rose 81 cents to $119.33 by 2249 GMT, after striking a lifetime high of $119.93 a barrel at the start of Globex electronic trade.

U.S. oil settled $2.46 higher at $118.52 a barrel on Friday.

London Brent crude rose 66 cents to $117.

"Supply side concerns underpinned the oil price," David Moore, a commodity strategist at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia, said in a note to clients.

"Oil supplies from Nigeria have been disrupted by militant attacks and a strike by some oil workers. A strike at the Grangemouth refinery in Scotland has caused significant disruption to supplies from the North Sea," he said.

A pipeline carrying nearly half of Britain's oil was closed on Sunday as a strike over pensions began at the neighboring Grangemouth refinery in Scotland, operator BP (BP.L) said.

The refinery, owned by international chemical company Ineos, produces a tenth of Britain's petrol and diesel but also supplies vital steam to BP's Kinneil plant that starts to process the crude oil coming ashore frol 70 North Sea fields.

In Nigeria, unidentified gunmen killed five policemen and seized several weapons in a raid on a police station in the oil-rich southern Nigerian state of Rivers on Sunday, a police spokeswoman said.

The attack comes just two days after a strike and attacks by rebels forced Nigeria's two largest oil firms, Exxon Mobil (XOM.N) and Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L), to shut in some production.

A step up in tensions between U.S. and the world's fourth-largest crude exporter Iran also contributed to oil's gain.

A cargo ship hired by the U.S. military fired warning shots at boats suspected to be Iranian, the U.S. Navy said on Friday, underscoring tension in the Gulf as the Pentagon sharpened its warnings to Tehran.

Iran denied there had been any confrontation between its forces and a U.S. ship, Iranian media reported.

Iran also said on Sunday a "disastrous situation" facing the United States in Iraq and Afghanistan, coupled with Washington's domestic issues, made any U.S. attack on the Islamic Republic unlikely.

Tensions between Washington and the OPEC nation last year helped send oil to record highs. Crude prices have surged more than five-fold since 2002 as supplies struggle to keep pace with rising demand in emerging economies, such as China.

Remember I said 5 to 7 dollars a gallon will force people to slow down, its getting closer and closer...time will tell.

Why do people think it is the government's responsibility to fix every childish thing that we the people do? I hear everyone crying about the price of gas, but few are slowing down and staying home. Where did the attitude come from that I can do whatever I want, no matter how stupid, and the government should have to bail me out of the mess I created?

I think we may slightly disagree. I went to a comedy club tonight. The parking lot was full of full sized vehicles and the "super" SUV's. I would bet the mpg average of the vehicles in the parking lot was 10 to 12 mpg. I say we're doing it to ourselves, to a certain degree.

Americans don't need a freakin' Hummer to go to a comedy club, unless they're expecting sniper fire. laugh

As a rancher who does put food on people's tables, my wranglers and I just ride the horses to town if we need something. We load up the saddlebags with groceries, medicine, etc... and come home. Thank goodness town is only a few miles away.

I have a Chevy 1500 that gets 24 mpg and I only drive it once a week. Believe it or not, I don't miss driving at all. I much prefer to ride the horses and have the comaraderie of the wranglers. thumbs up angel

Excellent point Dave! The people are stupid, as a majority. They will trade their Freedom for Security... a false security, cos they listen to what the gov has been putting out there, telling the people... We will protect you, we will help you. It is all lies!!! The gov can not do it!! Where were they on 9/11??? Protect us HELL!!! And the gov will NOT do anything about the fuel prices either. They are all investors and are getting filthy rich off the oil. They are full of bull when they try to act like they care... They DON'T!!!!

Ya'll keep up the good postings, I got a load to haul to Texas. C'YA!

As long as you think and or place yourself in a position that you NEED something that someone else has, you surrender your power to them (as well as your pocket book). And they (oilers) will no doubt abuse that power and take you for whatever they can get. Its freakin human nature. Its called supply and demand and most times its ""artificially"" manipulated by those who know they have this power over you. (there is plenty of oil in this planet to last for centuries). Stop and or reduce your demands (a position you put yourself in) and who cares about the manipulated supply factor, not to mention the freakin price. You choose.

and then we woke up.dancing banana

BTW.. god is love ... not anger laugh

Trying to re-write history are we? Huh?
Maybe you should mention why the bills to end this stupid war and other good bills to reign in pork barrel government spending failed.

Because they were vetoed by Bush or voted down by congressional republicans!

Unfortunately the Democrats didn't have a big enough majority to over-ride a presidential veto or get a bill passed when virtually every republican voted against it.

Republicans had it all. A solid majority in the Senate, a solid majority in the House of Representatives, The White House and a right leaning Supreme court. What did they do with it?

But that's ok, republicans days are numbered. 267 to be exact! Then watch! yay It will be New Years Eve, Christmas and your birthday all rolled into one.
