I just pulled this up from wiki because I was just doing some reading about Mary Daly, "Beyond God the Father", which is her attempt to explain and overcome androcentrism in Western religion. ....all relevant with the content in this thread....
It is understandable how most people refer to God as "him" or "he". I do hear a lot of this from Christians and Muslims. Not saying they are wrong or right, just an observation. We all see God in our own and unique way.
Okay, this may sound a bit weird coz it's my own theory (I hope

) that I just made up:
Man is traditionally active (the hunter), the generator, like the sun which generates the energy for our solar system and is also traditionally / symbolically male.
Woman is traditionally passive, the recipient, like the earth which depends on the sun and is traditionally / symbolically female, hence Mother Earth.
Moon depends on the earth (therefore the sun) and is also the female counterpart of the sun.
The sun has ALWAYS been worshipped by man since the beginning (including by christians - long story).
No wonder God is seen as male. If he exists, he IS male.... Totally jmo.... God, it's late here!!
