It seems the forums have really gone downhill. Or am I just getting to the point where I've read it all many times before.

I think its a combination of the two perhaps? Yes, subjects will go and go... and then come around again. There are often peaks and troughs and it usually picks up, but I think its a valid point.... the last two weeks, say, is the most dire I have EVER seen the Forums. You can see the evidence of that partially in that so many of the interesting and entertaining have not been seen for some time.....
sigh

Good to see you, though..... cheers

The main reasons the forums are going downhill are that if
anyone with a fully working brain takes the trouble to post an insightful and thought provoking post. The majority of the time it ends up as a bitching and moaning thread. Full of snide digs often ending in arguments.

So, then you find the more interesting posters either give up trying to make threads of the non-boring variety or they leave the site completely. Which then in turn gives certain posters who love to flood the forums with mass postings of idiotic drivel and inane threads almost a free monopoly of the place yawn

Also, yes... I do believe the amount of time we are here can have an effect on how quickly we become bored with the forums cool

When I first came to the forums (in October), I really enjoyed my time here because I made a few friends, had a few laughs, and occasionally found some interesting topics to discuss. Even tried to post some of my own, but I've all but given up lately. Being here was, in the past, a great way for me to pass my free time while in Afghanistan, since I couldn't go anywhere or do anything other than work. But it has greatly lost its appeal as of late. I come back and read the topics and seldom find anything that I want to reply to. I have felt some genuine warmth here at times and there are some great people here that I feel a connection with, if only a virtual one. But I'm not good at mere social chit-chat; I prefer talking about (or, writing about) real things. I will pop in here now and then and see what's going on and what's being discussed, but unless I have something real to say, I'll mainly just remain quiet.

Repetition isnt so bad as you can forgive people for repeating that they haven't seen themselves.

What is unforgivable is posting absolutely inane garbage as thread titles and even worse retrieving this total load of garbage to keep the thread on the page.

Some people think their bright, where as i would argue that even a turnip isn't that stupid to make the same mistake, over and over and over again.

What is it, insensitivity? Lack of reason, complete ignorance or what?

Best stick to what draws you to the forums, and hopefully their will be more rays of sunshine as opposed to more cowpats to step in while looking for a conversation thread that doesnt involve a dumb list or something approaching a mutual appreciation society.

Frankly it had better change, or as you noticed it will stagnate and die when anyone with a spark of sense will question why they bother.

Hats of to you!

I agree, and have also wondered about the reasoning behind this behaviour dunno

It's the same old topics. dunno

But what amazes me is that breaking forum rules seems to have little consequence anymore.

The rules say no personal attacks, name calling, harassment, bad language. And no derogatory or offensive references to sex, gender, ethnicity, or sexual orientation.

In the past, members who broke the rules were GONE. And many were never allowed to return.

Speaking for myself, I get sick of watching the personal feuds, battles and mud-slinging.

No reason to stick around and post if the forum is a battleground sigh

I agree with Zelleronne and it couldn't have been put better, IMO...!! thumbs up

You, too, raise some good points. Whereby, I have said before, I advocate the diversity and that there are those who do not break the rules by level of intellect, sense of humour, education, how informed one is, etc there is often a behaviour that simply beggars belief. This has been mentioned time and again, and as disappointing as it may be, there are those that are just not receptive to other viewpoints and the fact that they can learn from others, something that I, personally, have gained from and find invaluable.... but then this is not MY Forums.....

I think you may be expecting too much, Robbie?? I have said before.... "Stones" and "Sponges", my friend... I rest my case??!! D'oh!
cheers

"Boring" - like so many other things - is a matter of perspective. Sometimes, boring can even be a good thing. When I am on the road, for instance, I pray for boring days. (Few things will ruin a truck driver's day quicker than excitement on the highway!)

I actually even kind've welcome boring on CS - Just for the excuse it gives me to actually do something productive while I'm home.

There is a saying about "Nothing new under the sun" and I believe that to be true. Although, as Alison mentioned, differing viewpoints can make even the most mundane subjects interesting, provided the combatants, er, uh... posters, do not resort to all out, full contact warfare.

That said, Yep! It's gotten kinda' boring here. It's happened in the past and when this spell is over with and we manage to get back to being un-boring, there will come a time when it'll happen again. Over and over and over... Just like the seasons and years... Just like life...

Anyone ready for coffee? It's Hazlenut cream and it's hot and fresh!

thumbs up
