Are Islam and Muslim both religions?? If so are they the same? If not what's the difference? Is one a religion & one a nationality?

I am NOT trying to be a wise-a$$. I truly do not know, I want to understand my middle-eastern brothers & sisters better.

The Arabic word 'Islam' simply means 'submission', and derives from a word meaning 'peace'. In a religious context it means complete submission to the will of God. 'Mohammedanism' is thus a misnomer because it suggests that Muslims worship Muhammad rather than God. 'Allah' is the Arabic name for God, which is used by Arab Muslims and Christians alike.

I went to Google, there is a great deal of well expressed information on line.

People who follow submission to God (Islam),are called Muslims.

Their basic tenet is "There is no God but God" (and Muhammed is his messenger).

A bit like we have God the father in Christianity, and Christ is his messenger.

no
not reall like that at all

christ according to the information/belief
is god-not a messenger
whereas mohammed was a prophet
however he says he ascended w/ christ and will return w/ christ

the quran was written by him in 28 yrs

the bible by 400ish men over thousands of years and yet there are ends that tie up repeatedly-
spooookylaugh

but yes islam is submission
same as christian idea of rendering unto Caesar what is his
so this suicide bombing and struggling for political control
is the same corrupt ideas that the crusades employed-
trying to make others submit-
both same-both wrong
and both not aligned w/ their religious teachings
just men corrupting things as we do in our intellectal wisdom
sigh

Please forgive my stating beliefs that are different from yours.

In Islam Christ is a messsenger/prophet , just as in the Hindu religion Christ is a messenger/prophet.

I was oversimplifying for the sake of not getting into an arguement with Christians as to the nitty-gritty of their beliefs, or to distinguish between religions and make one person feel less than another just because of a belief that can't be proven.

No one can prove that God exists , so therefore no one can prove that Christ is God. We can only prove that He was a man and that he existed.

I tend to not say things I can't prove generally.

There was no insult intended to anyone's beliefs.

Hi lass..nice for you to have interest..
I will go further and say Islam itself is broken down into three major groups of followers...just like christianity hs different churches although under the same umbrella.
Sunnis..shi'ites...and sufism...I am a follower of sufism and have been for 7 years now...we all read the Qu'ran just as christians follow the bible...There is only one text of the Qu'ran but it has been translated into other languages..It does make it difficult as some arabic words cannot be translated into a definite meaning in english....
I was fortunate enough to study in the Middle east under the guidance of a sheikh in university so I learnt the arabic version and language thoroughly....

Most people are surprised to learn I am a sufi follower but I am comfortable with who I am after studying many religions...
There is so many resources over the net..most of reliable..
I will just mention also we all have the same God..some people believe that Muslims feel they have an entirely different God they worship..this is not so..hug
