A while back I had someone on here message me and we started talking. We talked for about a month before it started rolling into a scam. A girl stranded in africa...asking for money, then asking for checks to be cashed and money sent...Anyway, I know that was a scam, I got them to confess. I just had someone with a same story of being stranded in africa, but this one was because of a wedding with the groom dying in a freak car accident in africa right after the wedding. Now she's stranded....

how do you handle messages like that?

It's common all over the internet. Just use the keyword internet scams on google. And you will see mucho info that resembles your story.

Sorry, I just had to laugh at the common part you mentioned. Yes, you heard we landed on the moon right? jklaugh

Never...ever send money to people you have never met over the internet. I don't give a flying f**k what their story is or how connected you feel with them because of such warm conversations over messenger or mails....

The story might not be the same BUT usually anyone giving you their yahoo and/or phone number in the first e-mail is usually leading up to a similar story.....D'oh! rolling eyes grin

Rule of thumb...don't believe anything until you meet someone in person...then take your time in trusting...I am not a cynic...just cover my bases..

Are you saying we DIDN'T land on the moon?

By far the best way to handle this kind of situation (if you have the time and inclination) is NOT to block the person and report him/her but to continue as long as possible with chatting and tying the person up because as long as they are busy with you they are not scamming somebody else and you'll be doing a service to a lot of innocent (albeit nieve and gullable people) from losing their hard earned money.
It's called "Scam Baiting" and it is taking a big bite out of these low life bottom feeders.

Here is a site to help you get started on your new hobby of Scambaiting.

I would not feel bad about being taken in for a month. Some on these scammers are very convincing some people have been chatting for months when they get fleeced. Count your blessing you relaized and gor a way with only a red face not many are that lucky.

You just have to be carefully and remember if they seem to good to be true they probably are.

That is the best advice I've heard in a long time. When you meet a person in person, that person is REAL. When you just meet someone on the internet, he/she is just virtual.
