HAPPINESS IS A WARM GUN...

On the heels of Obama's comment about bitter Americans clinging to their guns, the prestigious Wall Street Journal has dug up some stats from 2006 that show gun owners are actually happier and wealthier than people who do not own weapons.
According to the research 36 percent of gun owners claim to be 'very happy' compared with 30 percent of people without guns.
The study also revealed that gun owners have the same level of education as non-gun owners and earn an average of 32 percent more per year.
Last but certainly not least, in 1996 gun owners spent about 15 percent less of their time feeling 'outraged at something somebody had done'.
perhaps I should have put this under the category of Health , Wealth and Happiness..lol. Taken at face value, it implies a lot as it begs a lot of questions. The people that made the two 'Naked Gun' movies would certainly have ample material here for another one; any NRA members may expect to find the article prominently posted at all the various NRA indoor ranges and at Natl. HQ in Washington DC... What could the new movie be called aside from the obvious: 'Naked and Warm'...%D

I find it amazing that anyone can buy a tactical Remington 700 rifle for $800, mind you it will drop burgulars at 1000 yards without a problem, so there's one reason to be cheerful if you spent 800 dollars on one.

I like the other happiness saying "Happiness is dry pants", so truelaugh

Well, the gun store owner is even more happy, after all he made $800 for a sale that took all of 2 minutes! He's probably already got him on a mailshot to buy some cammo, a deer hat, A CZ83, a bazooker and a large hunting knife.

That and 500 rounds of ammo.

But the guys happy, after all he got a free t shirt.laugh

I never even lock my doors to my car or my home. So, I have no need of a gun. While I am in favor of peoples right to bear arms...I do think there should be certain precautions

Statistics have a nasty habit of showing that which one wants to see really, depends on interpretation i guess.

Wouldn't however believe that owning a gun would provide me with more happinnes....and I fail to see a whole nation being happier because they have more guns available to the man in the streets either.

Considering the frequent episodes of unbalanced kids taking out thier frustrations with shoot outs in school, the innujerable episodes of gun fights in residential zones, and other such situations makes me remeber westerns where everybody used to carry the gun in holster sort of thing.

Don't agree to that kind of society, and wouldn't want to be part of it either.

I agree on the happiness issue, guns don't make anyone more or less happy IMO. And there's definately truth to your comment about statistics.

I would only disagree about your examples of criminal behavior using guns. Yes, criminals use guns but the majority of gun owners don't use their guns for those purposes. Unfortunately, a very low percentage get the press and the episodes (especially involving schools and universities) are horrible. But those were conducted for the most part by those who obtained weapons through dubious means. Categorizing all gun owners in the same light would be like categorizing all hunters in Malta in the same light as those who recently torched 3 vehicles of people monitoring wildlife in a former hunting area. It's simply not accurate.

True....

More then anything else thou, having guns avaialble quite freely is something that gives me the shivers.

True, the impression we get at this end of the planet would possibly only be that which the media depicts, or chooses to.

Bottom line, it's not really generalising I intended, but rather the abhorance to guns in general.

That I can understand and respect. There's plenty of people who have the same feelings towards weapons. Personally, I don't subscribe to that belief but I do understand yours.

Now, let's head down to Snoopy's for a brew. cheers

Well I have shot a few different kinds because I had to when I worked for the prison and I actually didn't mind it....BUT I have no desire to own one and I agree...kids in the home and guns don't mix...BUT I also agree that teaching them respect for guns is a good idea...My dad taught my son from an early age by taking him hunting and I bought him a pellet/bb gun to use under supervision....so he learned the difference between real guns and pretend guns and what they were capable of fairly young.....teddy bear

Ever been to Arizona? Folks carry their sidearms, and THERE IS LESS CRIME!

If pilots, teachers, or other trained, responsible members of the public were carrying their sidearm, WHEN CRIMINALS START SHOOTING, there would likely be only one death involved, not dozens of innocent people.

Please, try and remember: WHEN GUNS ARE OUTLAWED, ONLY OUTLAWS WILL HAVE GUNS. Do you really think that a criminal will not be able to get a weapon?

Responsible gun ownership STOPS criminal shooting rampages.

And, makes any invading army general think long and hard about occupying a country with an armed population.
