Hypothetically.....President Obama

Historically, the United States has leaders of all colors and both sexes. Black, Red, Yellow, and White. Some of each race and sex have done extremely well and others have done extremely poorly. Some were in situations where doing well was a real difficult thing to accomplish.

Obviously if he becomes the President, when he has his Presidential
painting done and placed, he will be uniquely different from all the others that are there.

The real question here is can Barak Obama unite the country...either before the election or afterward. Many feel he can. Many don't. Yes, the election will be a measure of that in our society today, in my opinion.

Many of us would unite under a Mandela of South Africa....many of us would totally reject Mugabey of Zimboway. Obviously Obama is not a Mugabey. But is he a Mandela? I cannot see the strife and the struggle in Obama, that I can with a Mandela. Cannot see that deeper understanding of mankind brought by this. Partly, because of Obama's age and expereince.

Show me a person.....of either sex.....that is red, white, yellow, black,
or orange....that truely loves this country and has this deeper understanding of mankind....that is a person I can support for the office of President.jmo

People will overlook a lot if the person has stature. Powell wouldn't be classified as the first black president, I doubt~

Obama will be the first black president since that's the way he's being sold.

(very humble opinion)

Interesting perspective. True, something about Powell transcends racial and party lines, as if we are unable to project onto him anything he is unwilling to have projected onto himself... However, the media, et al., would have labled him the first black president, of that I have no doubt.

Okay, hypothetically, if Obama wins the democratic nomination, and, hypothetically, wins the presidential election, is it possible for race to become a non-issue and that he will be judged on his performance alone? That is, will he ever be just the president, or will he always be the black president?

Looking for thoughtful, considered, fair, and reasonable replies--Thanks

Also, please be respectful of each others' opinions...

It's not race that’s the problem, it's his religion, and the religion of his family thats the issue. The election is rigged in his favor they won’t allow Fla votes to count.

I didn't read this entire thread, but I believe that if Obama wins, then there will be more of a split in America than ever before. I think we all know that history tends to repeat itself, unfortunately I think if Obama gets elected as President that the riots are going to start all over again even if he's against it. Not to mention that if that happens with the Patriot Act in place and being as it stands then Obama could declare policed states.

I don't know how many are actually aware of the fact that Bush had it put into place that the President can declare policed states if anything were to happen.

I'd like to think that none of these things would be an issue, but I don't see how they wouldn't be. I give credit where credit is due and I commend Obama for his vision, creativity and his wanting to change things, but I don't see it happening since there are way too many hurdles and hoops he's going to have to jump through, over and climb.

I would hate to see any of the aforementioned things happen, but it seems to be too much of a reality.

The Muslim religion is considered Christian now? It's funny Christians is so quick to defend him every time something comes up mentioning he and his family are Muslim. You do realize that Muslims don't think the Christian religion is such a wonderful thing either right? I mean your doing away with your own faith.

Intentional ignorance, I love this photos surface of him being performing Muslim rituals in his youth, BUT that doesn't make him Muslim.... His father was a Muslim who belonged to a known extremist group, ok he admits this but his father didn't raise him, his step father did... Fair enough... Then it comes out that his step father was Muslim... But he still has to be Christian, because he says he's a Mormon.
The list goes on and on but your right he's not a Muslim he must be a Christian who was well shyt I can't even make up a good excuse for him...

You make some good points but think of the problems that will come when he is unfairly not nominated by his party i.e. if the superdelegates go to Hillary.

If the guy wins the nomination and then the general elections he should be president. His supporters would really have something to riot about if he were somehow denied the democratic nomination or the presidency when he is clearly the frontrunner now in the primaries and can possibly do very well in the general election. If that were to happen I would completely understand the anger even though I do not support Obama being elected.
