If the US was a tiny island of a million people I could see nobody paying any real attention to the upcoming elections, but it's not. What happens in the states has an effect on people around the globe. It's not an isolated entity with no influence or interests in other countries, so people from everywhere should be watching the race closely. It may indeed have a direct effect on their life and liberty!Just in case you missed it the first time I posted it.

OH, thank you so much for pointing out the error...What I meant to say was, they can be interested in our elections, but not necessarily interject their opposition to the candidates. The last time I checked, I still live in America and have the right to my own opinion. so that is what I was expressing. batting eyelashes

Well seeing as how this is an international forum and being that there are people from countries all over the globe on here, there are going to be differences of opinion.
I try not to bash any of the candidates but I will poke fun at them if I feel the urge.laugh
I can't vote for Ron Paul but that doesn't mean I can't find out more about him and also put info out there if someone is looking for it. I just can't seem to find a whole lot about him. That and I've talked to some Americans who have never heard of him before.

If the US can go into another country to "help" them be a better country, why can't other countries return the favour?grin

I know nothing about Ron Paul--but of course you have a right to an opinion--of any country in the world, with the exception of Mexico, Canada is affected by what the US does. As far as 'helping' well you can try..in this case, however, big brother rarely listens...

My sentiments exactly!! It seems like the U.S. is always helping a foreign country and when it comes to us, who helps? We are always sending foreign aid somewhere. Who sent us help when hurricane Katrina destroyed New Orleans? Maybe the media didn't bother to report on any help from anyone, but I don't recall reading about foreign aid to us. Someone always has their hand out to America. I think America should help its own citizens first.

There was another thread on that very topic, Katrina, and from what I remember the help was refused. dunno

Well seeing as how the US can invade another sovereign nation to forcefully bring them democracy even when they weren't asked to, why shouldn't the rest of the planet be concerned as to who the next president of the US will be.
What if he/she wants to continue this path or even escalate the war!?!?
What if you were an Iranian citizen, how would you feel?
What if the next president want to implement a draft to take YOUR kids, grandkids, cousins, nieces, nephews and send them off to a foreign land to die?
What if if other countries are forced to get involved as well?

Shouldn't the entire planet be concerned about who the next president of the US should be?confused

I think this is a silly question. People who vote based on race or gender shouldn't be allowed to vote. Or have children. Or drive.

Obama represents a chance to bring new life to the democratic party by giving hope that change is possible to an entire generation, or two.
He does not accomplish this by being a specific skin color.

You're joking right...where were you when Chavez ordered that the Venezuelan oil refineries donate a few million gallons of heating oil free to the the residents and had tons of food and clothing donated. That put so much pie on the face of Bush and his so called aid plans that he actually threatened to stop Venezuela from aiding the residents of New Orleans.

As far as Chavez, I wouldn't buy gas from a Citgo station if it were selling for .25 cents a gallon. Unless someone was on the far far left, they realized it was just a political ploy. Maybe Germany thought it was cute, but most Americans saw it for what it was~~

As I said in my post, I must have missed a report about help being offered. All I saw was how our government was not following through with disaster relief.. As for Chavez, I don't trust that man and I think he has ulterior motives for the humanitarian jesters he gives out. Chavez hates America and it is JMO but he is sneaky and any help from him would probably have some strings attached somewhere. I think he only wants the rest of the world to think he is a good guy. Like I said, it is JMO and that and a dollar will get you nothing.
