a local issue here...
A woman covicted ten years ago of a horrendous crime in which she helped her husband rape, torture and strangle while filming a ten year old school girl...
She is now on life support...
Should tax payers be resposible to keep her alive..
Is she entitled to the health system as much as the next person?
Remember this is a democratic country and no capital punishment exists..Try to answer without emotions...difficult isn't it???

If she is nothing more than a human vegetable (i.e. brain dead) then life support should be removed. If there is a chance for recovery, & since you do not have the death penalty, then you have no choice but to keep her alive. JMHO

I would love to say she deserves to die just for her crimes alone...however when it comes to medical cae...everyone deserves the best care possible no matter who they are...I say this shouldn't be handled any different than anyone else who was on life support...if there is a decision to take her off...it should be because there is no hope of her getting better...NOT because of any crime she committed!!!!!!!!

When a person has been judged and a punishment set. By all legal rights that person would be the same as anyone else except for the punishment due or paid. Once paid they should by all legal rights be the same as any other as respect to law and social acceptance. But it is not always felt or acted as if that this is fair. But we must or should abide by law wiether we agree or not. It is not a perfect world by any means.

Agree totally. thumbs up

Any time we have a thought to end someone's life, or make them suffer, makes us no different to a person who initially had that thought before some abberation of mind made them act on it. It all starts out with intention.........

EVERYONE has a right to life, and people often are brought to the light and repent right up to the last minute. In law, intent to end a life is a crime too.......

If we are not thinking straight, we could look for justification for just about anything, including ending a life or helping someone do something deviant. It all starts in the same place, our minds.........

I have no sympathy either...BUT when it comes to medical care...I think that unless one remains neutral and they receive the same care and treatment as everyone else...that places the medical community in a place they don't belong.....Just think if everyone received medical care according to the deeds they have comitted throughout their lifetime...Who then decides what care they should receive according to what deed?????

That decision if criminal...is and should remain with the criminal justice system and has no place in medical care!!!!!!!!!

This is really a tough one as you say. In my mind, I make an analogy to freedom of speech, of which I am a staunch defender, though it is painful to stick with it when I see, hear, and read some of the things people say--like neo-Nazis and Holocaust deniers. However, it is a slippery slope, and if we start making choices as to who, why, or when, and include in it revenge and retribution, well, the slope just gets more and more slippery. If your country has laws of right to life and no capital punishment, for everyone, then it has to apply here. The cost of keeping her alive is probably minimal, in the bigger picture. However, it is as frustrating and infuriating as can be, especially when you think of people who are waiting for medical care or just not gettting it because of lack of funds.

Yes lack of...very much like other 'lucky' countries...
An urgent op for bowel cancer usually about ten months waiting list....
Probably sounds familiar..
Being a rather small community here makes it difficult..she is in the local hospital where I work...
Everyone remembers the courtcase...she laughed the entire time and said her husbands needs turned her on...

thumbs up thumbs up Good post Portiea
Quite frankly I am glad I have one more day of work there before I leave for Ireland....may be tempted to feed her some arsenic..
