chances are you've deleted corrupt files which have attached themselves to dll. files needed in order to play the videos.

try downloading real player for free and set it as your default

http://uk.real.com/player/more

this will play most video files. if it's dvd movies you're trying to watch then there are loads of free dvd players to be found. personally i use avs dvd player.

http://www.avsmedia.com/DVDPlayer/

that should sort you out but if it doesn't then feel free to mail me wink

Thanks for those suggestions, folks, and for the mails..... teddy bear
I have tried some of them and it hasn't worked. I recently installed Firefox.... it seems as though that may have something to do with it?? (Hugz??).

I am clearly being dim about this.... any chance someone can give me step-by-step instructions?? It keeps telling me that I need to close all browsers first but surely I can only access the downloads by Googling via Firefox??!! dunno confused

Depends n what kind of file you're trying to play?

loads of differing formats and each uses their own codecs

Ah gotcha, If you restart Firefox when you do the plug in thing it allows the software to install as it won't while the browser is still open, when you click the firefox icon to restart it will offer you the option of continuing browsing where you left off anyhow

If that fails, run a search for a file named:

WPSWF32.dll

If its found, right click, copy it then paste it into

C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins

Dear Alison ,just a note,,,,please be careful,,,I had a mesage to install a file to view a video and it ended up taking 24 hours to get rid of a malicious virus,,,,what ever it asks you to do at least download it and then Virus scan it before the install,,what file is it asking to "install" or "download"??
