Maybe we should learn not to interfere when we are told no. Hey..if they don't want our help...someone else does. The U.S. has a proud history of forcing it'self on other people and cultures. Plus if we help thses people, there is less money to kill Iraqis with. We DO have our priorities, you know!!

You're right Ship. I think we make the offer to help but if it's refused we leave it on the table and press on with other things. Us forcing our goodwill on others isn't helping. If they really want it they'll take it or ask if they need more.

I agree! We need to take care of our own first. This is not just an American effort. The whole world is trying to help and no one will let them in. China has been reported recently as being oppressive to the area even before the cyclone. The whole world is trying to help and they won't let people in.

All I am saying is..where is China if they are a good neighbor? and.....are they behind not being to help?

This hemisphere of the world is enriching China. They have repressed their neighbor who has a right to be individual and we let them send us our goods..Not all safe mind you and keep on doing it and when we do that we make ourselves more powerless and give them even more power.

This is a really good point IMO. In one breath we condemn their human rights record and in the other we condone it by buying their products thus enhancing their human rights violations and poor labor practices. It also serves to strengthen their economy while draining our own.

I would also much rather see many of the goods currently being purchased from China produced in Mexico (along with the US) and Canada). For Mexico, this would more than likely improve their economic power and may stem the tide of illegal immigrants coming north. The only trick would be that Mexico would have to figure out how to do it less corruption and with fair labor practices. It couldn't hurt the US or Canada either.

The goverment refused, to save face. The people need help that the junta is unable or unwilling to give. Sure sometimes the usa forces itself and buts in where we should'nt. However the Burmeese are in a dire situation , at the very least someone needs to go bitch slap Than Shwe.
