Ladyheart,
Where does one find super strength oil of oregano? I have never heard or read about this treatment. I guess I can call around the health food stores and see if I can locate some. Would love to go the natural way to heal this as the rash has taken quite a hold on me and continues to march on a little everyday.

I guess I should also try the real tried and true old fashion calamine lotion too. My doc had actually said that it wouldn't be real effective. But I'm at the point of trying a variety of things perhaps on different areas of my skin and see what seems to work the best.

I seriously appreciate everyone's input on what has worked for them or their family. Interestingly, the itching has stopped very briefly now where I had the teabag placed. I would need no less than about 100 of them or more across my abdomen and chest alone. Now that would be quite a challenge. Then across my legs and some on my arms and neck too.

Thanx for that tidbit about aveeno cream. Didn't know about that. Only knew of aveno soap. I'm calling around now to try to locate some of the things that the CSers have recommended.

I'm desperate for anything that will work. Perhaps a cocktail of the various ideas will work together.

So I'm on the phone calling now. Calamine lotion will be a surefire with this scourge along with other stuff too that I will try.

Believe it or not, the bright pink poison ivy breakout areas are tender to touch. They are not oozing but they are itchy and actually hurt a bit, especially on the chest and rib cage. They are definitely not shingles but classic ivy rash.

Ok, I've heard a couple different things from work. What the one gal uses is called Tech New (not sure if it's spelled that way), and the V.P. has said rubbing alcohol. With the Tech New stuff, try it out on a small area first to make sure you don't have a reaction to it.

I'm using tecnu, calagel, cortisone 1% cream and also the 2.5% cream by prescription. I wash my clothes everyday, change the sheets, alcoholed my body, then washed with soap and water. I don't mind the rash with it's healing time but what bothers me is the new breakouts. I'm beginning to wonder if it's in my bloodstream. I have no fevers.

Whomever could find an immediate cure should be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.
Having a large amount of poison ivy rash on your body is certainly no fun!! Grrrr!!

Well, never mind my last post....lol

Hey Ship,

Wish it was the case of fooling around with someone in the woods. At least there would have been some satisfaction to all this suffering.

I can't seriously pinpoint where this poison ivy came from. Possibly from my neighbor's outside cat that sneaks in my door when I go to go out. She heads straight for my indoor cat's food bowl. I pick her up and put her back out. Haven't touched her since and am now very careful about touching her, just in case she was the culpriit.

Or maybe touching something somewhere in a public place where someone who has poison ivy on their hands had touched. Guess I'll never know where it came from for sure. Can only guess.

The Aveno oatmeal bath helps too.

But time, calamine lotion and just some good old fashioned sunshine will help dry out the rash.

I've been terribly allergic to PI for years.

One time I had a bad case, I went on vacation to a beach. The salt water seemed to help. Like the calamine lotion, salt water is a drying agent.

Good luck!

As a person who is highly allergic to poison ivy , poison oak and sumac and they all contain the same chemical that can causes problems in many people.
The main thing is you are still having allergic reaction to the exposer of the plant, you really should be taken an antihistimine internally, there are some that are none dousy , benydryl is the best but it will make you tired.
The doctor always gave me a antihistimine shot, which helped and then I would continue taking them in pill form.

But I found the best thing is to buy a product called Calydryl it is a Calamine lotion combined with a topical antihistimine that helps the most. And take a over counter antihistimine.
I hope you get well soon. Been there so many times now as soon as I get a small itchy spot before it has time to even spread, I take a antihistimine and never get it spread all over me anymore. ThankGod!
Hope this helps and get well soonhug

Nothing that you can buy over the counter works except to help stop the itch.

I know because I have tried every treatmenrt known to man or beast...yes I have tried tons of home remedys..the only thing that offered any relief was to pop the tiny blisters with a needle and put chlorine powder on the area.(I dont suggest that you try this one)

This causes a burning sensation that will feel better than the itching...but burns like hell!

So what I have found that works every time is to get to the doctor and get a steroid shot. Tell the Doc that the creams and lotions do not work.

I have used the prescribed lotions and meds and the only thig that dries it up and prevents the itch and stops it from spreading is the shot.

Works for me...

sorry for the rant

hope this helpsprofessor

Caladryl lotion worked for me, but I've never had it that bad. It's calamine with an anti-itch medicine added.

I've got to tell a funny story on a friend of mine. She and her bf were out riding a 4-wheeler in the woods and she had to go. He's a country boy and should have known better, but it had been real rainy that year and everything was bigger than usual, and he accidentally gave her some poison oak leaves to wipe with. She had to go to the doc, I don't remember what he gave her, but she had to go around wearing nothing but a loose dress for a week or so.

you can also try penaten it's a cream for baby's diapers rash i had used that once for my ecxema and it works

the aveno cream i had tried it when i was working wal-mart gave me that tube to put on my rash and the next morning i whent to the doc and find out i was allegic to day-quil

i can give you a list of good over counter medication because i work in the pharmacy sometimes

if i where you i won't try alot of medication here and there over your body because it can interact and do your PI get worst or even create another problem

i know about it because i've had used hydrocortizone for my ecxema and turn out to be allergic to it

just in case your allergic to someting it's better to try one at a time

the best i know so far is the tea bags
and you don't need 100 of them just rub gently the tea bags on the infected area.

Somehow I contracted poison ivy. Not even sure how I got it. But it continues to march it's path on my body in spite of putting the corisone creams on from the doctor. It even hurts in areas on the chest where it's heaviest. The creams take care of the itching but not the spread of it. I wash my hands frequently and keep changing my clothes. It's almost 2 weeks now.
I'm hoping not to have to take prednisone as I'm concerned about side effects.

I was amazed at how little it takes to cause a rash. I was amazed to learn that 1/4 ounce of the urishiol oil could cause a rash on every person on this planet who is sensitive to it and that it could last on an inatimate object for up to 5 years and even survive in bitter cold temperatures on the object outside.

One would think that with all of modern medicine out there, the cure would be so simple.

Seriously, does anyone have any proven non-painful cures

:

Whenever my exhusband gets poison ivy he pours bleach on the rash. Says it hurts but it works.
