Hey Lillylady, what's itching? hehe sorry 'bout that...I'm weak.

Walk out to your driveway or sidewalk and look around for a small plant called plantain. It is low growing, maybe only 2" to 8" tall has a rosette form and the leaves are sorta like a beaver tail. It has a small flower stem and the flower looks like a tiny unopened pinecone. You might be able to google the plant to see what it looks like. It grows in almost every driveway or along any sidewalk that hasn't been treated with herbacide in the country(usa).

Take a bunch of the leaves and put them in a blender and puree'
them, spread this juice on affected areas and let it dry. It should stop the itching very soon and clear it up in a few days.

There is another plant called jewelweed or touch-me-not that grows around creeks and streams that is fairly good too!

These plants are also good to rub on your exposed areas before you come into contact with PI. This should help keep you from getting it.

Seriously, google the plantain plant to see what it looks like, I'm positive that there is lots of it within 2 blocks of your house. It's not hosta lillies, but the leaves are shaped like it but much smaller.

I have a buddy whos' wife is incredibly allergic to PI she can even get
it while carrying wood in the middle of winter. Plantain is her rescue.
He puree's the leaves(a whole lot of them!) then pours this into an ice cube tray, freezes it the pops the cubes into a ziploc freezer bag
and presto whenever you need it there it is!

It's free, doesn't sting and works well and it's everywhere.

I hope it helps!

As mentioned before if you have it on clothes or furniture you will just keep getting it. Also fels-naptha soap is good to use to wash off with after exposure. I use cool to cold water.

I've read this entire thread and find it hard to believe that nobody mention the only sure CURE for PI. It's called Jewelweed.

http://www.altnature.com/jewelweed.htm

all the other remedies mentioned, calamine lotion, aloe etc. treat the symptoms not the infection. Jewelweed is not a treatment, it is a cure.

The American indians knew about jewelweed 100's of years before Europeans ever landed here and jewelweed can be found growing in the same places and PI itself. I keep a bottle of jewelweed juice in my freezer just in case.

Wash off everything you smeared on your skin and rub the juice from the jewelweed plant on your skin and the itch will go away almost instantly and within 5 minutes the swelling will begin to go down. Use as much as you want it's non toxic.

Good luck

ooby, reread my post at the top of this page.

Actually plantain is a good bit better than Jewelweed.

I'm using tecnu, calagel, cortisone 1% cream and also the 2.5% cream by prescription. I wash my clothes everyday, change the sheets, alcoholed my body, then washed with soap and water. I don't mind the rash with it's healing time but what bothers me is the new breakouts. I'm beginning to wonder if it's in my bloodstream. I have no fevers.

Whomever could find an immediate cure should be awarded a Nobel Peace Prize.
Having a large amount of poison ivy rash on your body is certainly no fun!! Grrrr!!

Get yourself to a homeopath - there's a remedy for it as far as I know. And beware of cortisone - it has side effects

Hi, I get poison ivy really bad.

A boyscout leader told me the only thing that will cut through the poison ivy oil is an old-fashioned laundry soap called Fels Naptha.

Now I keep a bar of it handy, and use it after I've been doing yard work, just in case.

The best thing I ever found to put on poison ivy is bleach. A lady I worked with told me to try it.

A few years ago, I was pulling weeds next to the fence. I didn't notice there was poison ivy growing between the other weeds. My right hand swelled up double, and I couldn't even bend my fingers.

I put the bleach on my skin, full-strength. I do small sections at once. (I remove my clothes first, as not to ruin them.) After it dries, I re-apply. I do this several times a day. The bleach dries up the poison ivy blisters. After several applications, my skin is red from the bleach, but it will fade. My skin will feel burning from the bleach, but that is better than the itching. And the poison ivy goes away quicker.

I have used the bleach all over my body, including my face. It did not scar.

I hope this helps!
