Would you be willing to have more children - assuming that you have any already - if the person you were involved with wanted to have children?

Well Dana if you had asked me a few years ago I would have said yes, I would have loved more children but at my age the chances of the child having problems is to high, and one special needs child is enough for me, much as I love her

I do understand that. I'm 44 and had thought it would never happen. I did ask a doctor a few years ago about it - because of my back problems. He said as long as we did a c-section I could. However, I am 44 and would have to change most of my meds before and during the pregnancy. That part isn't a problem.

But I loved being pregnant and really would love to have another child.

Vonney, do you know about the chances of something being wrong with a child JUST because of the mothers age? I know that there are risks, but I'm not sure what those risks are.

I can consider when I am in my 40's.
Definitely not right nowscold . My kids are too young and it would just unsimplify things in my personal opinion. I would like to keep things as simple as possible.

dana ........i'm not vonney but i can answer that a lil.................age makes it hard for a woman to bear the child(brittle bones and all), also with hormones already changing for the "big" change it can cause some deficiencies in the baby, the biggest worry is a baby with down's........it can be mild or severe.

Thanks, Amy. Do you know if through planning with a doctor, those hormone changes can be regulated in some way to avoid those deficiencies?

well Dana the risk of Downes is 1 in 30. Chromosone disorders are more common they can lead to miscarriage or a variety of medical problems for the child.

Adopting a healthy lifestyle will of course help.

Dana nothing is 100% proof..As i had my blood work done and am very healthy..and will do what i am supposed to do by doctors orders..but anything could happen...with age there is a chance as amy said about down..but i would love that child no matter what happens....

sometimes it can.........if you should decide to have another lil one, definitely plan it.......don't do an "oops" it can be dangerous for both you and the baby

the ob i worked for...........he and his wife did an "oops" (he's in his 50's and she's in her late 40's)
their baby is a down's baby.......almost killed both of them when they found out because it's so risky to continue with a pregnancy at that point.........but they had a beautiful little girl who is only mildly down's

i could tell you other not so happy stories.......but i won't

just remember to be very careful and plan plan plan.....................you could have a very smooth sailing pregnancy and birth with a perfect baby with no problems.................................that is what i wish for you if you decide to have anotherteddy bear
