That position of not meeting, appeasing or talking with terrorist, has been the US position since 1960s. There are many reasons, why we hold that position. One principly is just historically talking with them always fails. Just like Chamberlin learned when he talked with Hitler
prior to the German invasion of Poland. He appeased Hitler, Hitler took advantage of the weakness, and Poland suffered the consquences.
Both Dem administrations and Rep Administrations have adhered to it.
Syria and Iran, both countries that have aiding in the death of American in Iraq are two countries that Obama has said he would meet with without any preconidtions. The others are Venezula and North Korea.
If Obama wins the Presidency and then goes to meet with these various leaders with his hat in his hand seeking to gain what ever
political resolution that might can be. He fails to realize the number of
deaths that Syria and Iran have contributed to in Iraq. Some are saying that 1/2 of the American deathes in Iraq are to Iranian supplied IEDs. That is some 2000 Americans. Add another 1000 to Syria for not closing the border. Obama wants to talk with the men that are responsible for them, the President of Iran and the Presdient of Syria.
Fine but he pays a political price here at home for doing so.
Really, the Dems are reacting to this like stuck sucklings...why? Mainly because they have failed in thier responsibilities to Americans in harm way. They know it. They know that when they flipped on the war, they also were becoming appeasers to what the war was for, and to groups like Hamas and Hezbollah idelologies, and to standing solid with fellow Americans.
Now GWB mentions another time in history where appeasement ended in diasater...pre WWII...and the Dem are sitting there saying to themselves.......gee we look like British PM Chamberlin here don't we? Well they do. They send Jimmy Carter to meet with Hamas. Polisi goes to Syria. Obama would talk with every terror supporting country in the middle east and already has Hamas support for his election.
GWB asked them prior to the primaries not to do these things because it would place American troops into more harms way and extend the conflict in Iraq, make it hotter because America appeared divided on the issues of terrorism and Iraq. These choose to go. They choose a course of appeasement here. I have blogged on it in the past, even before this. As far as I care...they can eat every bitter bite of thier decisions here.
Point at GWB all you want, but when you fail your duties to fellow Americans that are in harms way, you need to have a quilty conscience. The Dems have just that......
This one ain't going away anytime soon. It is the core to the flip, the Iraq war, and the Dems actions since 2004 in trying to micro manage the war. They know it and that is why they whining about it. GWB just used his bully pulpit position and his right to speech to share how he felt about Americans appeasing the enemy as a American Senator did in pre WWII. Welcome to what a lame duck President can do.
Also.....hear the Knessit when he said it? They cheered him. Because they knew what exactly was going on here. They knew that America is still a solid friend of Isreal.....even though Carter, Polisi and Obama would appease her enemies....and tried to cause divide between our two countries.
