I was going to retire this year, opening weekend came and went last weekend, and I just felt that I was not ready to give up playing.

I've been playing baseball basically my whole life. Baseball has taught me a lot....like the power of positive thinking and visualization.
I played in the minor leagues in my younger 20's.
I have been playing in the Swedish pro league since 2000.
I also play for the Swedish National team. I get free trips around Europe and the world playing in tournaments.
I do still love to play, but not in the same way as before. I don't have that same excitement and I really don't care for awards anymore.
I just like to hang out with the ball players and WIN.
Winning is everything. Trust me, it is no fun to play and lose.
This may be my last year....even weekend for that matter. I wanna see how it feels to play again this weekend.
Just thought I would share this info with my internet friends.

Below is a pic from the European Championships in Barcelona last September (hit a triple)
The other is from the World Championships in Holland in 2005 (stole second base off Cuba)
Last pic is from a tournament in Prague last year.

Thank you for sharing this with us SF!

I hope you have a great season!

I grew up at the ball parks. My dad was a ballplayer.
In the 50's, he went to spring training with the St. Louis Cardinals, as a pitcher. He "threw his arm out", so he became a first baseman. He was a leftie, but could bat left or right, as I can as well. In 1958, the Miami Marlins, a minor league team, asked to sign him. He declined as he made more money at PanAm. He played for the local teams in Miami. His team always won and he had a house full of trophys for team wins and he always got the MVP trophy.
Dad played baseball in the spring/summer, and softball in the winter. I played under the bleachers and raced all the boys, as I could "run like a deer", as Dad put it, LOL.
He played until he was 46. They thought he was "too old", but Dad was still good and his passion for baseball never left him. They wouldn't give him a chance cos of his age. It really hurt him. This was in Jacksonville, Florida. It was "clickish" and it deeply saddened him.

I still think a man in a baseball uniform is Sexy as can be! I love to watch them!!

Years ago, I used to bartend. The owner of our bar loved baseball. He sponsored a team. They used to come in after the games. Oh how it would drive me nuts, seeing all of them there in uniform!! I even dated one of them for awhile.

Batter UP!!!

Hope this is not your last season, much less last weekend, given how much you like it. It is great you have been able to live your dream. And wonderful you can do this in Sweden--had no idea they had baseball teams in Sweden. I learned to like/love baseball when the Seattle Mariners had their great season, back when Ken Griffey Jr. and Alex Rodriguez, et. al. played for them. A short, but intense love affair for me--with the game!! day dream smile

Well, I just got back. Hugh delay with the trains coming homesigh

Anyways, We won one and lost one. I did pretty good considering that I am not in the best baseball shape. It was perfect baseball weather.

To be honest, I did have some episodes where I just felt bored. Strange....The zest for the game is not there like it used to be, but there is enough left for me to play out this year. Plus, it was really cool hangin out with my baseball friends.
The travel sucks, but then again I get to see all of Sweden by playing baseball. I will play about 70 percent of the time. The weekends I have kids, I don't think I will play....depends if we are home or away.

Okay, I am just hoping we win it all. We have a chance cause we have the players to do it.

I suspect I met feel more into it as the season progresses.

I just hate train delays. The trip home took my five hours instead of three. Traveling does take a toll on you after a certain amount of years....
