Before Internet Dating.....

I see alot of young people (under 23 years old) who have joined ConnectingSingles. I believe in the online dating concept, so I am not trying to disparage anyone here.

I came into dating mode agewise in the 1980's. If they had internet dating back then, I probably would have tried it.

Question...would you have tried internet dating if it was available when you were a young pup? What do you think of people under the age of 23 using the internet to find someone?

I think it's kind of odd for people under 25 to be using it--
From high school to about 25 there was always a lot of people, groups, partying, people you met at school, just never would have needed anything like this. Seems kind of sad to me that someone so young needs or wants to do this...where are their friends?

Most likely not , I had too much fun dating often or running around with my friends to have sat down behind a computer.applause

When I was under 23 I had friends, but could not find a girlfriend....I was very shy. I can understand why some people would choose the internet route.

I was in the bars with all my friends back then. Some great times.
Probably be doing the same, but then again, not in that situation. My son has "fallen in love" with some girl from Texas he met on-line.

I think it's the changing of the times.

I see the younger ones around me nowadays, and even the method that they play the mating game has changed. It'snot just computers....

How did we all get the message through to sopme girl who we liked when we were younger?

Either getting a 'friend' to let her know, try desperately to get her to come for a date, or whatever.

Now I notice that 'mating' occurs mostly via mobile phones and sms....which is not a far off situation then directly throu the computer....

It's just the tools that have changed....I would say it is us more mature persons that have lachted on to something that the younger ones seem to have discovered years ago, not the other way round.....

Good morning all BTW....

cool

I had a friend under 25 on here and it made sense for him. He's in the Army and didn't really meet a lot of people around his base.

I don't think I would have used it, I was busy busy busy and always out.

now, my life is different, I have children and don't get to go out very much, besides I work from home so I don't get to meet new people. Supermarkets are not the best places for meeting people, they're good for the shopping.

I find it hard to believe such young people need computer access to meet a patner unless in a situation of work commitment or similar. I am struggling with it at my age but I believe as we mature most of our friends are in a committed relationship and it is not always pleasant to be the third wheel or the guinea pig of well meaning friends trying to set me up. I do not want to hang around bars in the hope of meeting Mrs. Right, not my style. If a nice lady happens to ask me to buy her a drink I usually say no, but I will buy you dinner, more chance at getting to know someone rather than over a beer in a noisy pub.

Up to the age of 19 I wouldn't have used it as I was busy working and going out everynight. Then I lived with someone from me being 19-25 so that would have counted me out of the internet dating thing also.

I can understand why some of the younger ones of today use it though. The standard of living seems so much more expensive now, also the cost of socialising in order to find a mate is a lot more. Then there's the violence and drug issues. Not such a safe place to go out as often anymore either socialising or on the pull.

cool

I would have probably found you adorable... the understated guy is very endearing... hug.. My lil bro is quiet... and they just seem to flock to him..(he's 23)... my Mum said it is because he is the 'strong silent type and that girls love that' (granted she is a lil biased).. laugh

Yep, me too what you said, Ken!

At the same time, I'll admit that I sometimes chuckle (though not maliciously) when I read about an 18-20 year old kid who is so tired of having his/her heart broken and just wants to find the "right" guy/gal. I mean, I can commiserate, but I just can't help thinking, "My God, you haven't even lived yet! You're young, go party, travel, get a taste of life and then come back and tell us 'old farts' how terrible it is to be alone.

(Thank you, CS, for helping me find my other half. I'll never be alone again!)

thumbs up

Oh, and one more thing:

Damn glad to see you back, Ken! You have been missed, my friend!

...Don...
