Yep, me too what you said, Ken!

At the same time, I'll admit that I sometimes chuckle (though not maliciously) when I read about an 18-20 year old kid who is so tired of having his/her heart broken and just wants to find the "right" guy/gal. I mean, I can commiserate, but I just can't help thinking, "My God, you haven't even lived yet! You're young, go party, travel, get a taste of life and then come back and tell us 'old farts' how terrible it is to be alone.

(Thank you, CS, for helping me find my other half. I'll never be alone again!)

Oh, and one more thing:

Damn glad to see you back, Ken! You have been missed, my friend!

...Don...

I see alot of young people (under 23 years old) who have joined ConnectingSingles. I believe in the online dating concept, so I am not trying to disparage anyone here.

I came into dating mode agewise in the 1980's. If they had internet dating back then, I probably would have tried it.

Question...would you have tried internet dating if it was available when you were a young pup? What do you think of people under the age of 23 using the internet to find someone?

No, probably not. I was out having a good time and didn't have a problem with dating really.........

Now?? Yes, I clearly need it - and it still doesn't work.... not looking good, is it??!!

I agree with the majority here. Back when I was in my 20's, dating wasn't a problem. Plus I had a boyfriend the first year out of high school. That was also the time when my friends were still single & we'd go out. Kinda handy when you're friends with an officer's daughter & have access to the officers club (grew up in San Diego & worked on base so prospective dates were abundant). At that time there were also more prospective dates in church.

NOW...my friends are spread out across the country with their husbands & families. And any new friends I have are all married, so I don't do alot of hanging out. Since I don't drink, I don't go to the bars, and since the friends are all married I don't go to any clubs either. So it is alot more difficult to find someone. (STILL looking)

having never been good at talking to people...I would have used the internet then as I do now. Here I can say whatever I want because I don't need to look a woman in the eye. I have great difficulty dealing with rejection. So I NEVER approach anyone for companionship, let alone a relationship. Here, it is easy to joke and act the fool because I know I will never meet anyone from here.

Internet dating for me, is somewhat a fantasy. I can meet beautiful women and talk to them, joke with them, flirt with them, and even piss them off! we'll never meet so, it's fun.

There are some that I have met on line that I have become pretty fond of...but they will never know this, because the net and the distance protects me from rejection!

O.K. I'll get off my soap box, now. HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY TO ALL YOU MOTHERS. And if mother is only half a word to you...have a great day, also

Thanks Don and Indy..great to see you guys to!

Don made a good point... it seems alot of young people have relationship problems. They come to internet dating without alot of life's experiences. Us older folks have had personal interactions with others when we were younger...we would go out with friends to bars, movies, the mall, ballgames, etc.

Another point is it costs alot of money to just socialize today. You go to a bar and spend $50 or a ballgame costs $50. I remember going to a Baltimore Oriole game, spending $5 for a student ticket and beer was about $2.50 for a 20 ounce cup.

With all the technology that is replacing just plain old human interacting face to face, kids text messaging, staying in and playing video games, myspace chatter and other chat rooms, maybe this is the only way younger people can relate to someone else.

I also agree with Ship...I am still somewhat shy and it is hard to meet new people face to face. CS takes away the awkwardness and allows me to loosen up and be more of myself. I dated 2 women from here that I probably would have never dated in the "real world". They got to know the real me, not the stumbling shy guy.

Thanks for everyone's input...great discussion. wave

Heck ya, in the 80's I tried just about anything. It is acually safer than meeting people outside, if your wise about it. And its not just about dating, but getting to know each other and meeting people from all over the world. You can tell if you talk to someone long enough what their up to. If you meet them outside your taking your chance's at first sight. Don't justify things you talk about that you aren't comfortable with though, if you think its off the wall or stange, it usually is.

I am sure I canm find a comb around here, somewhere. Wouldn't want to breathe, if there was no Earl Gray in the house

Hey...a serious question, really!

I was at a local restaurant that brought a selection of teas to my table upon ordering tea. One of the selections was "English Breakfast Tea" Is there a difference in the tea that the Brits drink for breakfast as opposed to dinner

Yes, English Breakfast Tea is self-explanatory, of course. Traditionally, during Edwarian and Victorian times, there was a specific tea for particular occasions and times of the day. My understanding is that it was prevalent during the days of the British Raj. This was really for the formal, well-to-do and, of course, we are nothing like as formal as that now (thank goodness coz I ain't wearing a bustle for nobody!!). A certain type of tea at dinner?? No, I think you will find.... we drink wine with dinner.
wine
Does that help??

Off for a shower now...... always have a shower in May, regardless!!!

Ken...... went off at a tangent there a bit, sorry for the hi-jack, love. Bloody good thread BTW.... thumbs up

From high school to about 25 there was always a lot of people, groups, partying, people you met at school, just never would have needed anything like this. Seems kind of sad to me that someone so young needs or wants to do this...where are their friends?

I used computers when I was young. Never would I have had time for a forum. We had a huge group of friends and switched dates on a regular basis. Had to be careful not to "double-book" in those days.

My daughter was the same. She only uses "MySpace" because her friends are spread around the world.

I have often wondered about this also....I think I may be right in saying its mainly young men...maybe they are shy or possibly just looking for a bit of experience judging by the emails the more mature ladies tend to get from them rolling eyes

I don't think I would have tried it. Especially when I was in hs or college. I was not so picky back then and basically approached any woman that was hot in my eyes. I don't think I would have had the patience back.
I really don't have much to say about those under the age of 23 looking to find someone via the internet, whatever revs their rocket and the times have changed.
