The neighborhood seems to have fell through the cracks, we never had crack in canada for years while the good ole America was going down fast on it, but now it seems the areas are turning for the worst, whats your opinion on cheap dope?

Where do you live in Canada? Vancouver, BC has one of the worst drug problems in the world, and has had for many years.....not criticism, just facts. The last time I was there, there was a police officer standing on the street warning tourists not to enter a particular area of the downtown because there were so many addicts and it was dangerous. I've never seen anything like that anywhere in the world.

Sad is it not for such a beautifull city and have to say my fave city...

Yep.. even down here in the middle of nowhere its still a growing problem.

I was there two months ago and walked around over the week through some of the worst areas in Vancouver. The last time I was there was 5 years ago and I hate to say it but it didn't get any better.
I have a friend that I stayed with and he lives right off of Broadway and Main, not far from all the "action".
I saw shootings right after the fact, homeless, mentally ill, drug dependents, alcoholics and everything you could imagine, right there in front of me in THE poorest neighbourhood in ALL of Canada.

The city is trying to "clean" up all of that so it can look good in the eyes of the world during the upcoming Olympic games.

It is very sad because British Columbia is a very beautiful area and Vancouver a wonderful city, except for this. Very sad indeed. (I unblocked North American mail)

I know (or have known) people from the prairie provinces that have moved to Vancouver so they could survive. Not for work reasons, but to be able to live outdoors year round. Mainly people with mental health issues or drug dependencies, or both.
It's a beautiful city but with a vicious underbelly. One night in the wrong place and it's all over. Drugs like crack, meth, heroine are an unbelievable source of continual revenue for some and they won't stop at anything to get that dollar.
My friend of 30 years is smoking crack. I didn't know that until I got there and my reason for going in the first place was because his father was dieing of cancer in a hospice. Well, he did die while I was there and now I'm waiting for someone else to call and tell me my friend is dead. It's only a matter of time.
