Let me be sure what You are talking about, If you are saying what I think you are then others are off track here...

Are you saying that your hard drive is completely full?
if so, how big is your hard drive?

also.. other than programs, Do you have any or many video files saved on your hard drive?

My tart has 25,5 blue and 2,2 pink
and all up 27,4

If you have a small hard drive, you can get a slave drive added to your system pretty cheap. ( slave drive is just another hard drive added)
You can even get an external hard drive real cheap- just plug it into your computer.

Then save all old non- program files to the slave drive.

if the hard drive is full... MORE RAM will NOT help.

When the hard drive is full, many programs will stop working right and some will Freeze.

I hope it helps ULI...

It seems I'm on the right track...

I've been saving all my stuff on an external hard disk, but I still have to get another extra external hard disk, so as to have a back up of the back up laugh laugh

then, I will errase most of what's in it

it's so stuffed with music that it's bursting at the seams! I'll have to use the extra hard disk to listen to music.... it might work out for the best as I'll be able to transport all my music everywhere with me!

Come on, Uli, get a spare hard disk and stuff it like a xmas turkey! your pc will feel so light it will think it's gone to one of those clinics people go to to loos tonnes of weight!rolling on the floor laughing rolling on the floor laughing

I let it.
It found nothing.
It wanted the original CD
which came with the lap-machine.

It would take ages to find it.

But I will search for it if the suffering is getting for much for me...

Dont Dont Dont!
You are talking about a system recovery not a system restore.

If you do a recovery, you go back to how the computer was when you bought it and will loose everything you have in your computer!

You did remove the programs using the add/remove function in the control panel? right ? blues

Assuming its a windows machine?

XP or Vista?

Open control panel.

System.

Device Manager.

Look to see if there is any sound device listed?

If so, note down the make, model and do a search for drivers

the system restore would be easier mind you.

oooops, sorry Ras - thought it depended on how full the hard drive is of rubbish you dont need - I dont have this prob anymore cos I bought a comp with lots of both types of memory - I did only suggest it as a temporary measure dunno

an external hard drive is a great idea too and frees up yr comp to work quicker - I bought a 500 gig one for around £50 and have it as an emergency back up thumbs up

ahhh, if Ras is right then I have a bit of a temp solution but you may ultimately have to buy some RAM to solve this - there is a prog, freely available from 'filehippo' called 'CCleaner' - that cleans up lots of rubbish on youur hard drive

well, if it is a laptop.. cant put in a slave.
But you can get a bigger hard drive installed, but not real cheap in a laptop.

but your hard drive is way to full for your system to function correctly!!!

you have to remove as much to remobeable storage as you can (cd's)
and remove old programs that you dont use any more.

That is your only choice!

with a 27 gig hard drive,, you need to get it down to about 8 free gig to run properly.

Thats what I said..LOL

dont do a recovery, that is why her system was asking for the cd.
but can do a restore to an earlier time..
recovery and restore are 2 different things.

but still, if the hard drive is full, ram will make no difference.

But Uli.. you do have a very small hard drive!

( I know, I know. I have been told the same things once)

Yep its the music,

Although every three months I do back ups on DVD
of everything on my ext drive.
Mostly photos and music.

What do people do if they need more space
on the drive within the laptop
for software??????? :daydream

I guess meanwhile it is very small...

Is it possible to get some expert
with a big screwdriver
and get in the back and
push in some other
bigger green plastic card
with silver soldering iron dots
on it so I have more space???

Just trying to cover all of the bases,
One never knows what someone else is thinking, or has already done or not.

25 gigs of nothing but programs is a hell of a lot!?
has to be a lot of older programs that you dont use any more or something.
Music files also use a lot of space, not just video's.

This is difficult by typing.. would be so easy to clean up if I were sitting in front of the comp..lol
