I never thought I would say this, but-This time I agree with aseeker.

When a lot of houses have been foreclosed in your area and a lot of houses on the market....... The value of your property go's down the toilet. then you are still stuck paying the high taxes on a house that is now worth half of what you gave for it.

Also, many of the loans that were made are truly Illegal,
How right is it to put into the fine print that you can not pay the house off early? so if you ever do re-sale the house and pay off the loan - you have to pay one heck of an extra fee for doing so.

Great for you!
Now will be a great time to see who your real friends are! Those that will actually help you move!

How new of a house is it?
Just an idea.. maybe put a picture of it in your profile?

As far as the taxes, you can dispute it and they'll reassess, usually coming up with a better figure.

Didn't think of that. But I don't have any yet. And my camera phone takes lousy pics. But I'll see what I can do!

I gave my notice to my landlords last evening. Mind you, we haven't been getting along the best lately. But I thought they'd actually be glad that I was leaving. Well, the landlady came over with the note in her hand & said, "You know, you're breaking your lease." I was like, "No I'm not. I'm giving you 60 days notice, as the lease states." She informed me that the lease runs year to year, automatically renewable. But she said, "We're willing to let you out of it, as long as you pay for July." Well, no sh*t!! I was planning on doing that anyway. But only for 1/2 of it, as I said I'd be out by July 15th. Who cares?!? I just want out!! I went back inside & called the realtor & said, "Please tell me the house is still mine!" She reassured me it was & I felt better. Why do people have to be such jerks???

I don't know how it is there, but when a one year lease is completed, it usually goes on a "month to month" basis afterwards, unless you sign a new lease.

If the lease was automatically renewable...you'd have to live there the rest of your life.

Sign me,

A landlord....wave

I was getting ready to suggest that. They'll always automatically reasses you higher, but you have to ask to be re-assesed lower. One development that I lived in when we moved to Antioch the prices kept dropping and there was one couple that kept asking for reassessments because of that.

And yep, I would say you're right on that one, and usually the lease states that it reverts to month-to-month after the first year. It's another reason they're able to raise your rent more than once a year.

I've owned 3 duplexes over the past 10 years. I've seen property taxes soar to the point the rents couldn't be increased high enough to recover the increases and the last thing you want to do if you have a good/reliable tenant is jack up their rent unnecessarily. (Responsible tenants are as hard to find as a good wife) laugh

And finally.....congrats Owen on your upcoming close!!! I remember I was excited when I went to pick up my keys.

Hopefully you're prepared for all the work you'll constantly be doing....lol....and you'll never be done....lol I painted the entire interior before moving in (ceilings too). Now I'm looking at the outside. Spent this past weekend moving 2 yards of river rock into the landscaping & have cut at least one tree down....lol....so have fun!!!!

That's what I thought, as well. But she insisted that it carried over & that I could only move in September. That seemed ludicrous, but not impossible.

Thanks so much for the information!!

Thanks! I'm planning on painting & wanted to do it before I move in, but now with everything that's going on with my landlords, I may just move in & then paint. It's actually move-in ready. I just want to make it my own, ya know?

Yep...I know!! Pick the color(s) you want & make it your own. Had a lot of input from my parents, but ended up doing what I wanted....lol

I plan on doing just that. But I have a friend who's helping me. She has a beautiful home & is actually getting stuff together to give me to decorate!

BTW, I have an aunt who lives in Antioch & her son, my cousin, lives in San Francisco!

I'm not an attorney, by any means...so you may want to check your laws in Penn. I doubt she'd take you to small claims to collect the remaining rents. That's a pain in the butt...

No, but my sister's male cat did that in the house until we had him neutered.

Speaking of which, I'm getting my daughter's cat when I move too! I'm going to have her spayed & declawed though, of course. I don't want her in heat or to claw my furniture!

I'm still waiting for the final verdict on the house. And my closing's scheduled for Friday morning! It's with the underwriter right now. I should hear today or tomorrow. Wish me luck! I've already given notice to my landlords. I may be homeless soon......

Thanks! I believe that's what my mortgage broker's doing. I'd be fine if it wasn't for the $45/month HOA fee. But my broker's been busting his butt for me!
