It is well established that alcohol increases accident risk. Evidence of marijuana’s culpability in on-road driving accidents is much less convincing.

Although cannabis intoxication has been shown to mildly impair psychomotor skills, this impairment does not appear to be severe or long lasting. In driving simulator tests, this impairment is typically manifested by subjects decreasing their driving speed and requiring greater time to respond to emergency situations.

Nevertheless, this impairment does not appear to play a significant role in on-road traffic accidents. A 2002 review of seven separate studies involving 7,934 drivers reported, “Crash culpability studies have failed to demonstrate that drivers with cannabinoids in the blood are significantly more likely than drug-free drivers to be culpable in road crashes.” This result is likely because subject under the influence of marijuana are aware of their impairment and compensate for it accordingly, such as by slowing down and by focusing their attention when they know a response will be required. This reaction is just the opposite of that exhibited by drivers under the influence of alcohol, who tend to drive in a more risky manner proportional to their intoxication.

Today, a large body of research exists exploring the impact of marijuana on psychomotor skills and actual driving performance. This research consists of driving simulator studies, on-road performance studies, crash culpability studies, and summary reviews of the existing evidence. To date, the result of this research is fairly consistent: Marijuana has a measurable yet relatively mild effect on psychomotor skills, yet it does not appear to play a significant role in vehicle crashes, particularly when compared to alcohol. Below is a summary of some of the existing data.

(For more information on NORML’s position regarding marijuana, driving and the law, please go to the site.........

Of course, Trish.... without doubt!! In fact, don't get me started on drink/driving.... there's never a soap-box around when ya need one, is there?!
D'oh!
Drink/driving is another issue all together, I made no reference to it for that reason and the fact that I was making no comparisons. I was purely addressing the "pot/weed" debate.

Some extremely valid points there though, love. thumbs up

Sexing when highed up stoned is phenomenalhappy place

Somehow, it increases the sensualness and just basically the whole experience is felt on a deeper level.

To be honest, I am not the biggest fan of drinking alcohol. I hate the hangovers and the sluggishness that ensues for a couple of days.

There are no hangovers after a night of smoking a couple of joints.

When I am stoned, I love to philosophize, and I do have to admit that I have solved many problems when I was stoned (personal)....being stoned really helps me think outside the box and with a less subjective ego. Many film writers were never really sober when they wrote their scripts....just saying...

Like I said earlier in this thread, once in a while is cool, but smoking out all the time is a huge no-no. It just makes me lazy.

I do have to say that it surely affects people in different ways, some can handle it and maintain a sense of responsibility, and others cannot...usually those people are also using other drugs or drinking heavy as well.

IMO, I really think weed is much more safer than alcohol and smoking cigarettes...I can pull out some studies if this needs confirmation. Heavy drinkers seem to age faster, and all the heavy pot smokers don't age like the drinkers do.
Anyways, I am not advocating smoking weed, I'm just saying it gives me a good head change at times, and it is so serene to be stoned out in the nature...

For medical reasons....absolutely!
I use to "spark up" once in awhile when I was younger but I don't anymore. I have a really bad grass allergy, no pun intended, so I don't partake anymore.
