This war from April

NEW YORK—Oil prices rose sharply Friday on news that a ship under contract to the U.S. Defense Department fired warning shots at two Iranian boats. Retail gas prices as expected rose further into record territory, nearing $3.60 a gallon.

Word that a U.S. ship had fired on the boats in the Persian Gulf raised concerns that a conflict between U.S. and Iranian forces could cut oil supplies from the region. Light, sweet crude for June delivery jumped as high as $119.50 on the news before retreating to trade up $2.70 at $118.76 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange.

Prices were already up before the report on news of a pipeline attack in Nigeria and a looming refinery strike in Scotland.

In Nigeria, the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta, or MEND, said its fighters hit an oil pipeline late Thursday, the fourth conduit the group has attacked in the past week. MEND said the pipeline belongs to a Royal Dutch Shell PLC joint venture. A Shell spokesman confirmed one of its pipelines had been hit, but provided no additional details.

MEND is the main militant group behind a series of recent attacks in Nigeria's southern oil region. Earlier this week, Shell said an earlier attack cut its Nigerian oil production by about 170,000 barrels a day.

Separately, workers at an ExxonMobil Corp. joint venture in Nigeria said they were cutting production by an unspecified amount to demand more pay. Officials said the facility, which typically

It is very odd that that is not the story that I am being told,,,,, Hell in reality it is rather frieghtning. In Va they are blaming OPEK and lack of supply due to demand from other countrys. I have heard nothing about attacks on the oil lines in countrys other than iraq ,,,and some bs abought the huricane katrina disrupting supply lines in that area.

I have heard that places like china and india are now starting to drive more so that puts a demand on the fuel and a rush on supply, i have also heard that corn was in short supply, i am thinking we are getting screwed and not even getting a kiss out of itD'oh!

I think that if the demicrats win this year than that is what the rebublicans want, the country is severly screwed up,,, we can limp into the next election and then let the crap hit the fan and fall on whomever is in office.. it would benifit the republicans if a demicrat was in the hot seat. I am not republican but will vote for someone in their party so they will have to take responsibilty for bush.

I think the worst thing that has happened to this country is the party system,,, every thing is blamed on the other party and the blame is never accepted ,,,,resulting in nothing being fixed.

They are diluting gas with ethenol (fuel made from crops / basicly diesel) Ethenol is not as efficent as petrol, so that lowers your mpg.

China is gravitating more to cars instead of bicycles or scooters. That is a serious enviourmental concern, it is also a epic concern to gas consumption and concidering the population of china ,,,,definatly epic.

A nother issue is food, for years the US has been paying farmers to not grow. The cyclone in Burma destroyed the rice crop ,,,Natural disters and global climate change coupled with crops being used as fuel is going to be a serious issue in the neer future.

very perceptive, it does all boil down to greed, supply and demand and supply and demand cannot be handled at an honest price/pace if greed is involved it is an untrue value so those three factors do not go together to =problem solved.

laugh laugh but you know it IS a more serious situation than people know of for instance when somebody is making minimum wage or a little better and is not sucking off the government and being a productive person in society and then can't afford the gas and to feed their children and pay rent with our ever lessening dollar that is when you see crime rates going up, fear in peoples eyes that used to be jovial orbs, people have got to eat and they must have residence, then they give a stimulation check for the economy well the people i know and have met and continue to meet say that that is not what they are using the extra surprise money for, they are using it for food, bills, gas. What a life, but we do have freedom to starve thoughblues I love my country but 1 in 4 of our children should not be going hungry, 1 in 5 adults should not be going hungry,,,,,,,depressing thoughts, i am off for another cuppa on the porch with the sun kissing my face.

Harleys are pricy but I have my eye on an electric scooter. It's not as classy but it solves the point a to point b problem. I'm a classy guy but i'll be scooting around this summer.
