I am wondering if any has any experiences using a Life Coach. I've seen so much info in which they advertise their services - but I'm wondering if anyone has had the experience of utilizing their services and what were the benefits.

I like the idea of an outside voice to give direction ........ sometimes when we are stuck in life and/or a situation ........ outside observations can be vital. As well, the thought of moving forward because truthfully how much benefit can be found from rehashing the past?

I've had plenty of people in my life trying to tell me what to do.mumbling Some are still at it.

I've heard of it before but don't know anything about them. I guess it could be of some benefit if you agree with them, but what if you don't?
I do agree with there being no point in rehashing the past though.

I think this is tricky. Your asking advice from another human who has had a life of their own and has their own individual challenges. What they see as right for you based on their experiences may not be what you really need.

.... If you truly feel you need a change, I'd say just break out of your comfort zone and try something new.

Hi Clairewave

I said they've tried. Doesn't mean they were successful.laugh

Well a few were but it made sense to me too.rolling eyes

Nothing wrong with someone suggesting something but to have some one "tell" you what to do probably wouldn't work well with me.
I'm not one to give advice all that often either. I do believe we all have our own answers and it's just a matter of listening to ourselves or bouncing the ideas off of another. In the end it is up to each of us to decide for ourselves.

I have a friend who is a life coach. I think its a good idea to seek advice and direction. She has helped me in the past .. as a friend not as a professional life coach but I would certainly recommend her.

Some times rehashing the past can help.It can help us to learn from our mistakes or see how maybe in the past we got thru other problems. As for your first question the only life coach i know of was my grandpa(R.I.P.),grandma(R.I.P.)And my adoptive parents who still help me if i need advice or to lend a careing ear.angel

I think you got the wrong idea about what a Life Coach does. From what I know, they don't tell you what to do. They help you find out what you want and then gives you tools to help you get it. If you already know what you want, then they gives your the tools and support to help you get it efficiently. That is the general idea, I think, of the purpose of a Life Coach :) Pity how the name Life Coach can gives the wrong idea what they do. I am thinking seriously of taking a course in it.

My degree is in Counseling dunno

What I have noticed is that people usually don't listen to advice and a counselors job is NOT to give advice or tell someone what they should do.

The counselor's job is to LISTEN as the person talks about the past, the future and what directions they are considering.

It's a matter of brainstorming, maybe writing down the possibilities and then it is up to the person to choose and take action.

Frankly, I wouldn't pay for a Life Coach rolling on the floor laughing

Been regularly meeting with a Group of People for near 35 years.
We have exchanged experiences, strength and hope.
No,we did not charge each other a Fee,no dues, quite informal.
Reaped Great Benefits from it.
Nope,it ain't religious.

For those trying to bury their past, don't.

Don't Regret The Past,Nor Shut The Door On It!

Digest it and LEARN from it.
conversing wave

So why pay for Something which I get for free, from people that LIVED through Those experiences, rather than someone that went to "School" for it?dunno

Unless it's The School Of Hard Knocks, namely LIFE!smile wave

I like this idea very much and have been considering joining such a group .... I believe that there is much wisdom that can be learned from others. My point in asking about a Life Coach was to try to understand how their approach differs from counselors or other professionals.

Well call me an old fart but we used to call them friends. On a profesional level there are allways the legal ramifications of profesional advice. And just on a side note Einstein met with friends reguraly to just reflect opon and out gas idears.

Dennis ( talk and listen, you will learn things. Mom knows, dad knows, grand ma knows, talk to people. the profesionals have advice that they legaly can not tell you.)
