This living in Europe thing...over rated
Getting drunk/stoned from Thursday to Sunday...seemed better in my 20's
Going to bars or clubs to find a woman...so stupid and counterfeit
Holding on to something not meant to be...meh, just a waste of time
Betting an insane amount of money on football or baseball games....I learned my lesson the hard way a long time ago (still bet a little though)

Try not to think about the new improved way of life we have in 2008.The more you look at it it doesnt make sense and will just drive you around the bend.

It does depend on what you want or are interested in....Europe is full of culture, history, art, etc. that is not available in the US. Well, I won't go into detail....there is so much to be seen and to do here... maybe not so much in Scandinavia, but certainly on the Continent--and compared to the States, you can travel to and see and experience so many different countries and cultures so much more easily. When I was in the States, I felt so far away from everything I wanted to be near.

I understand you point Portiea. That is cool if you like Europe in that sense.
I have been to just about every country in Europe, sure it is not fair to make a quick synopsis based on a 2-3 week stay in a certain country, but everything looks the same (architecture/cobblestone roads etc), and the people are just not as friendly as Americans. There is so much diversity in America. America is not the same as Europeans would think it is. California is a different culture than Texas or the South. The midwest and the north is like a country by itself. There are many different Americas within America itself. I would break it down by region. California and New York are two different countries imo. The only thing that hold Americans together is our language, sports, and some of our ideals in "the American way" sense, and that is it.

I've been stuck in Europe for 9 years now. It does not do it for me. California is where it is at. An open and progressive society with unparalleled nature. We have the beaches, the Redwood forest, the Sequoia forest, the desert, and the valley(farming). The people are really open minded as far as doing things alternatively ...can't say that about European people. They all think their people is the master race or whatever. Swedes hate Germans and the list can go on. Europe is a little behind America when it comes to institutionalized racism.

Not sure I agree. I have also been in Europe (if UK counts) for 9 years. I miss my family and some things American, but love Europe and the diversity. The open mindedness.. the differences. I have lived all over the US, East Coast and West... all areas in between. I think the US is a lot more close minded and puritanical than Europeans. That is not meant to be negative, JMHO.

I will always be an American and am proud of my country, but I don't feel Euorpe is a worse place, just different..

I will shock you and say I agree with much of what you say, about the diversity in America--I too come from the West Coast, but farther north, however there is also the sea, beaches, mountains, deserts, etc.....Every state has a different culture, to some extent, and the East Coast is different from the South, South from the Mid West, etc.

However, I find the history and culture here amazing, and that is is not all the same in every country. There are amazing and beautiful places here. The people have been wonderful to me....I find them, with a few exceptions of individuals, just as friendly and progressive as any American, more so than most....however, I do notice the cultural superiority they seem to feel towards each other, each country seeming to have a problem with the other, and all seeming to have problems with immigrants and Americans... I have always, all my life, wanted to live in Europe, so for me it is fulfilling dreams...and I have not found those dreams disappointing....I will never return to live in America....visit yes...

Perception is everything Portiea. Power to you sweetheart for enjoying the European way. As long as you are happy, then that is what counts.
I just miss home so much at times. I think it has to do more with the sports culture and friends. To me, I just can't connect with most European dudes. They are just too different. Not to say that all American dudes are cool or better, cause a lot of American men and women just annoy me, but the sub culture I exist in, is not easy to find in Europe. Oh, this is complicated.

Anyways, perception is everything. All I know is that the sports culture is upside down in Europe.

That's cool. In all honesty, I am really happy that you have that perspective. True, America was built upon Puritan beliefs and doctrines in the beginning, but Cali is different.

It all depends on the perspective. I know i'm not being original on saying this, but if your unique motivation to stay there are your kids, then one day you will explode!

Do you really think that the Swedish are like Italians or Portuguese like Spanish? I think that all these countries and people are different.

The Americans are nicer than the Europeans? Yes, that's my impression. Nevertheless, the openness varias very much within European nations. And...statistically, the South should be nicer than the North...i find it the opposite! Southern Eurpeans tend to be more arrogants and nationalists than the North...a clear example is that they don't really make efforts in learning other languages...at least english...but...again, that's me...

If we could discribe Europe by picking only ONE country...that would NEVER be Sweden...

Hell no cristina. Europe is extremely diversified. I am aware of that. I do like Holland btw. Been there twice...about 30 days total.

I tell all my American friends that you cannot define Europe as a whole. Italy and Sweden are two different worlds. Like America, it is easier to break down by region. You assumed my stance cristina...scold Maybe I should have clarified my view on Europe in my OP. Sorry.

scold scold scold Never. My kids mean more than anything to me in the whole universe. My kids are more divine and loving in spirit than anything else in this in my own personal reality or universe....we all have our own.
I do not have that belief of exploding. I manage it the best I can, and nothing brings me more happiness than being with my kids when I have them.
Family and love is the most meaningful thing to me. That is what comes first. I could never leave my kids. I would so hate myself. My kids are real, they love me unconditionally, I love them unconditionally. bouquet of flowers bouquet of flowers bouquet of flowers

"everything looks the same" or something like that were your words, i didn't assume anything...
Moreover, in less than 60 years or so, Europeans fought with eachother, therefore the "hatred" among them. I have friends from II world war...pfff...they still speak with lower voice about how terrible the germans were. The polish are not ok with the germans, but they are "obliged" to immigrate there...
Americans don't really have reasons to "hate" each other like the Europeans do...

So true. But some of them find reasons in America. All kinds of reasons to be honest. America is a very violent country...even as a citizen of the United States of America.

I meant more on a physical level, but mental as well. I know what I see....and nobody is going to take that away from me, they can only help.

I hear that everyday, yes...
Btw...you said Holland was nice, oh yeah, this country tends to balance everything, despite tensions( who doesn't have them).
I'll have to go back to Portugal and live there for a short while, 1 year only, then i'll definetly come back here to stay!
