Ain't nothing to say man...just don't think it is necessary. Read my earlier post. I know what it is like to be a 'victim' of violence.....Primarilly one needs to act in a way that does not bring violence into one's life. Baring that, not much else to do. I think the gun culture creates more violence and that it doesn't prevent violence. I have lived in several other countries in the world, not just Europe, where there is gun control. I believe the right to bear arms is an archiac notion based on the situation at the time of the forming of the United States and the Continental Congress. The concept does not apply now.

My opinions are diametrically opposed to those who believe in guns, and I am sick and tired of trying to explain and defend them.

So, really, don't want to discuss it or argue it. Nothing to be gained. Goes in circles. Diametrically opposed visions.

Well said.......But don't think that just because I have guns that I'm looking to shoot someone. I hope I never have to use them against anyone, but I will to protect myself and my property. It also goes without saying that many have guns that shouldn't. I believe in permits for gun ownership.

Just this week in a town not far from me, a guy high on drugs broke into a couples home, made them kneel on the floor and shot them both execution style......just think about that for a minute.....

On a final note I am sure you will remember the horrors of Dunblane when a lunatic entered a primary school there and shot dead around 20 five year olds and their teacher.....he had a permit what difference did it make.......none whatsoever.

Had they had a gun in the house, there is no guarantee it would have helped them. Often home/business owners with guns end up having those guns turned on themselves. I think arming America is closing the barn door after the horses have gotten out (it is horses? terrible at cliches). Point is, it is a problem that needs to be dealt with from the inside, not from the outside....we need to deal with the causes of violence in our society....not meet violence with more violence. It is the same as any war, if you fight back with violence, it just escalates it...and this is a war that will continue to escalate without a winner...there is no end in sight.

I need to stop. Not coming back to this thread. I find this argument pointless. Circular....never ending. Sorry.

Really? I am so surprised by that comment....I am so happy I live in a country where not every other person has a gun stashed away somewhere in their home...that thought makes me feel good and long may it continue.......we are now seeing heavily armed policemen at the airport due to last years events...and it unnerves me when I see it and makes me very very sad

I agree. There are the options of knives, pangas and mashetes.

If you want a gun bad enough you can get a gun in any country. Please don't think that because your government has laws against hand gun ownership that people don't have them. That is pretty naive thinking

Have you heard of Columbine, a few years back? I think you have. If you take the Dunblane and the Columbine cases and had put handguns into the correct hands at those schools, a lot less children would have been killed and possibly none, except of course the perps.

I can see both sides of the argument with the exception that I choose to have my guns for my enjoyment and protection. After all, isn't that what freedom is all about, the right to choose?

Just like Portiea said, we can go around and around and................

At least if a guy or gal comes at me with a knife, baseball bat, hatchet, what have you and I have a gun, there is a pretty good chance that my life will continue and the others that I may be protecting.

I dont need a gun to defend myself, mind you atm a 75 year old mugger with a zimmer frame could do me terminal damage if the connected a blow under my left lung!

In fact less than 16 pounds of cat caused me considerable pain by sitting on my feet earlier paralysing my feet! I was lucky enough that he shifted his own ass as my dumb ass nephew passed out sleep and left me vulnerable to surprise beast nesting opportunities.

Bastards are preventing me resting right now!

It's your right to own a gun but you be allowed to own a MAC10 for self defence?

When is the ability to go full auto or even semi auto even needed in a non military environment?

Why is it you can buy for $800 a Remington 700 Tactical Sniper rifle?

Some things dont make sense, allowing kids or adults to fall auto weapons to facilitate wholesale slaughter of kids in schools is pushing your right to own a gun too far!

Irresponsible gun ownership and the weapons that are available to the public is a point you all need to come to terms with over there, unless you want to keep clearing up high school shoot em ups every year.

I never saw the need to hunt a deer with An AR14 with a tri bust trigger either, nor a reason why a normal person feels the need t want to own a LAWS rocket. Why can you legally by semi auto tri burst kits for combine rifles?

Do you need an AK47 for home defence, because a good old assault rifle with a min rate of fire with the basics of skill will rattle off 600 rounds a minute.

Thats a lot for a deer, that a lot for home defence, its also a lot for a crack head.

If you put 600 rounds through a deer, a house or crack head you have one big mess to clean up..........

And i will also respectfully say if you need that many rounds or that firepower then your a lousy shot at well.

Dream on Lady,I was shot and nearly killed by a Punk in a Country with stricter Firearms Laws than the UK.
We have LESS Gun-Crime here in CH with an extremely Liberal Firearms Code and about 7 mio Population, than the Country I was shot, which has about 300'000 Population.
You forget the Criminal Element infiltrating Police and Defense Forces, causing uncounted Firearms to be """LOST""".Guess where those Arms go????
Your Argument does NOT hold Water.
Besides any halfway mechanically inclined Individual can throw a working Firearm together, see East -Timor for an example!!!
Besides the "RIGHT TO OWN AND BEAR ARMS" is a constant reminder to anyone, including Politicians DON'T THREAD ON ME!!it is also an extension to my RIGHT to SELFDEFENSE,which I only have DELEGATED to the State,NOT given up.professor professor professor wave

But it is the GUN-FREE ZONES around Schools in the US which made some of those Massacres possible,as if a Maniac gave a damn about being prohibited to carry Firearms in those Restricted Zones. Those SHIT-HEAD Politicians who "THUNK" that up ought to be Shot with HOT SHIT.
Now I am really Pissed off at those Arses
very mad
In CH the Assault Rifles in Civilian Hands have been modified, they can't be used for Serial Fire, unless you do some serious Re-modifications-smile
