i am a big fun of horror films, but i rather prefer psychological horror / suspense to bloody gruesome ones.

The type of which Alfred Hitchcock would deliver.

tufty: Shelley and Byron.
Most recent decent horror seen was Wolf CreekAdore Near Dark tho.

Wolf Creek was damn good as well. The main Aussie charaster i have to say was absolutely brilliant, and thats what made it even more horrifying.

I noticed a similarity to the Jeepers Creepers movies afterwards and i wonder if that is where the writers got their idea's from for these two movies?

I wonder if anyone else thought the same thing?

Micheal Myers is the man, then Freddy and jason. But, my favorite is the original Predator movie (but that may not be considered horror).

theres a very limited range of monsters and horror settings out there. all the main plots and characters have already been done, so many modern writers merely rearrange the older plots.

How about the shining, or the original House on Haunted Hill, with Vincent Price? I also like a good Psychological thriller. Love the build up of suspense.

No thank you, it is the one genre I literally cannot handle, horror movies give me nightmares. Even though I KNOW it is all special FX & make believe I cannot watch them. I can read the books & watch sci-fi type movies like the Alien or Predator movies, but movies like Saw, the Elm Street or Halloween series or any of those types, I cannot sit through. I still can't watch older horror flicks like "The Pit & the Pendulum" or "The Excorsist"
nacreous: anyone else out there interested in horror?

Love it - but I never seem to get "scared"...

nacreous: Just wondering if any of you like horror movies or books. I myself love the genre, and would love to discuss favorite authors and or movies.

Just to get things started (hopefully) I'll say this:

WITHOUT EDGAR ALLEN POE, THERE WOULD BE NO HORROR.

My favorite horror movie, on the other hand, would be more modern...
The Ring.

anyone else out there interested in horror?

well, I gotta admit I dont like or respect those blood and gore movies. I mean, I'll watch them, but I dont aspire to their lowly status. Resorting to blood, guts, and gore is the easy way out for a horror writer.

the trick is to scare the bejeebies out of someone without using blood or guts. That is something most folks dont understand anymore. something that is bloody is not scary... just gross.

I like scary movies and books, not gross ones.
A few people have mentioned this already, and I just wanted to chip in with my enthusiastic agreement.
Cheers to all,
