That is just too bad, you have the right to not want smoke in your place and she should have understood that. I will tell people to go outsideconversing

This was inspired by the thread where the hypothetical was posted: if someone lost thirty pounds an engagement ring would be offered.

Okay, so here's the topic: "bottom lines," "ultimatums," or...reasonable requests. How much are we entitled to ask of another person regarding changes in that person which may make them more compatible with (or approved by) you? Is it possible to reasonably make such requests/demands? Never reasonable?

What are your experiences with these kinds of "if you do this or change that I would find you acceptable" situations?

Jeff
Either accept a person "as is" or leave them alone.
Changes have to come from within, if a person is trying to make any changes to better themselves, then the best thing you can do as a person who cares about them, is to help, encourage (no critisims sp?) and support them.

That would be why I'm picking about who I meet to begin with, if they're a smoker, I don't even go there. I'm highly sensitive to cigarette, cigar & pipe smoke so it's better for me not to be around it at all, so I just plain ole don't get interested in someone who does.

I have smoked from 16 to 26...

Never went back...

My boys dont like it either...

But my fiance does smoke and wants to quit...

But he will do that when/if he wants to...

You have to do it for urself and not for anyone else

So many conditions on love that it's hard to know which ones to put on a prospective partner first.rolling on the floor laughing

No one I know will live in a dirty house, sleep with a dirty man/woman, put up with nose picking at the table, ball/ass/crotch scratching in public, someone who never flosses or flushes the toilet, farts out the latest tune, eats their nails, sets their family aside for football or beer or drugs or another woman/man, or gambling, shopaholics, alcoholics, kleptomaniacs, prescription pill poppers, snot inhalers/lickers/eaters, physical/mental disabilities, and fanatics.

Smoking is often just one of those things, no better or worse than a million other habits if they are willing to do it away from people it bothers.

The thing is that we can always find something to not put up with in people, no matter how good we think we are going to be at accepting the other person warts and all.

In the end, nobody's perfect.
