I tells ya folks, it just don't work. any other fruit, its fine.

today was hot enough in philly for me to install the air conditioner again, and to make my first batch of water-ice of the year. I make my own water-ice all the time in the summer. Its easy. just take your favorite fruit, skin and seed it, and put it in a cuisinart or a blender. Put in at least five or six ice cubes, and some sugar to suit your sweet tooth. Blend and enjoy.

Just dont try watermelon. I just tried it for the first time, and it tuned out like water. I guess there is too much water in watermelons for water-ice. water water everywhere, eh?
it looks just like this...wine wine wine

WATERMELON GRAVITE (ICE)

2 1/2 c. cubed watermelon, seeds removed
2 1/2 c. water
2 1/2 c. sugar
1/2 c. lemon juice
2 tsp. almond extract

Bring water and sugar to boil; simmer 5 minutes. Cool. Add lemon juice, almond extract, watermelon cubes and any juice left from dicing watermelon. Put in blender and blend until smooth.

Freeze in 2-quart ring mold; stirring once or twice. Unmold to serve by dipping briefly in hot water, then inverting. Fill center of mold with other fruits, moistening with a little orange juice, if desired.laugh wave

Funny you write about it since I tried that too.The result was not desirable so to speak. We just have to suck on our melons the oldfashioned way and participate in seed spitting contests.cheers

oh yeah, sure, I've heard of stuf like that. Thats how you can make coffee slushies. something about constantly stirring something while it is in the process of freezing sets up a gelatinous state. I forgot the word for it... something from high schol chemistry, like slurry. It sure looks like a lot of work, though, but I may try that. Thanks.wine

Remember sitting on the porch steps and doing that ..... when I was young the watermelon tasted soooooo good ......... we actually had quite a few seeds that would sprout.

Not sure if my taste buds have changed ......... but nothing seems to taste as good as when I was a kid.

taste buds do infact change over the years. By age ten, a child has already lost a fair percentage of his or her tastebuds, and they continue to diminish over the years.crying crying crying

Yes I remember.I think our tastebuds get messed up the older we get.In my case it's smoking, social drinking and lord knows what else influence our taste.I used to grow watermelons in my yard. They are supereasy to grow.I used to test my shotgun on watermelons when it came time to set seeds. My way was so much carefree and more fun. You take a gardenhose to the leftover and surrounding area and let the good lord do his work afterwards.laugh

I was always amazed how many seeds would sprout.

Damn.Must wake up my grocer to sell me watermelon. It's close to midnite overhere. laugh

Lol ............ sounds like a lot of fun .......... puts a new spin on gardening accessories. We had BB guns - don't think that wouldn't worked too well - never even thought about that .... just used to shot at pop cans. Here though, the watermelons never grew - not enough sunshine.

Best thing to do with a watermelon is to inject it with a liter/quart of vodka.
