jlb684: The most beautiful that I have seen (pure aesthetic beauty) is Oia, Santorini (Greece). I do agree that it is difficult to choose one place, for there are many beautiful cities and towns and villages throughout the world. I spent the past weekend on an island called Lefkada and it was absolutely stunning. The mountains and the sea were unbelievably captivating. I went to a beach called Porto Katsiki... spectacular!! And I have been equally enchanted by some very small villages....old stone buildings with bouganvelia trailing down the walls; splashes of purple and red and pink; old men sitting outside a small taverna, playing backgammon, tossing their worry beads in their hands; shepherds moving their flock of sheep across the road; and the turquoise or lapis blue sea. There is beauty to be found almost everywhere, in some form or another.
