Well I'm anxiously awaiting a call from my good friend Dustin. He's coming home from Afghanistan on leave. He was delayed in Kuwait, and he's waiting on the next flight out. He's anxious for a break from the desert, but when he goes back he's going to an area that is attacked on a daily basis. My prayers are going with him when they send him back over there. And I'm going to talk to him about sending a care package back with him.

Well I'm still waiting, I'm on tender hooks here as they say. He won't officially be on leave until the day after he gets home.

My son is 8 years old and ever since he was 3 all he's been able to talk about is being a soldier when he grows up. We'll see what happens in the next 10 years!

Just suggestion Twinkles1994.....some decide at a very young life that the military is for them. If he is one and is truely dedicated to it. He will ultimately enlist. My suggestion is to consider sending him to military school. The extra schooling and training are life savers in this.

My grandfather saw WWII coming....sent his two eldest sons that were both draft age.....to one. It helped to keep them both alive.

Also it is more likely that he will become a officer....and be considered for a Academy appoinment if he attends one.handshake

national service is compulsory in switzerland but i have no idea if they are ever sent anywhere to fight. my ex was on the short list for peace keeping in former yugoslavia. i said if he gave me his gun i would shoot him in a knee cap just to keep him from going and happily go to jail for it. mind you after what he has done to me in recent years i must have been an idiot. and hey welcome home soldier to the guy above.

I can totally relate to parents with children in the military... my son is 19 years old and I would not want to see him going away to somewhere like Iraq. God bless.. wave

My son is 24 and he's over there now. He's been there 6 months now. He says it's very hot and dusty over there. The shower facilities are separate from the living quarters and he said he feels like a sugar cookie after the walk back to his quarters. He said the sand has gotten stuck all over him again. I pray for him and all the others that are there, or will soon be deployed. It's tough for them over there.

Hope he comes home safe. A friend, her father and brother are in the same unit over there.

Hope anyone who has a friend, or family member over seas, that they come home safe.
