In February 2009 ALL tv communications in the U.S.A. will go digital by order of the federal government.

Just curious, is the same thing happening in other countries???

I think it is bad because then any body wants to see tv on small tv receiver or on mobile phone and so on.....has to pay!

Damn .......any ´thing is formed after how differnet companies can make more and more money than they already make

and then I dont know how people will be able to see tv when they ar eout camping or when they ar enot home and travelling

(This is for the UK)

When is it happening?

The switchover started in Whitehaven, Cumbria in October 2007 and ends in 2012. It's happening region by region, and to find out which TV region you're in, you'll need to check which ITV local news service you receive. Once you've done that, you can check when your region switches at Digital UK's website

Will I need to buy a new TV?

Not unless you want to! But if you want to carry on using your old TV, VCR or DVD-R, you'll need to put a digital convertor ("set-top box") between your aerial and your TV setup. These usually cost from around £25 ($50) and can be easily found in electronics and hi-fi stores, supermarkets and many other outlets.
